PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Break Arm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manlio Marconi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manlio Marconi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Break Arm!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Manlio Marconi!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marconi closes the distance and clinches.

Marconi lands a takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Arm had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Marconi defends it easily.

Arm looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Marconi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Arm working for a triangle but Marconi defends it easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Marconi's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Arm has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Marconi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Arm is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Marconi stands up from Arm's guard - Marconi perhaps looking for a knockout.

Marconi clinches.
Arm is working for takedown but Marconi is calmly controlling the position for now.
Marconi scores with an uppercut up the middle.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Marconi creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Marconi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Arm looks for a takedown but Marconi sprawls well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Marconi shoots in and bounces Arm off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Arm is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Arm isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Marconi stacks Arm on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Marconi!
Arm is breathing heavily.
Marconi misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Marconi tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Arm is looking for a sweep.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Arm is looking to regain half guard here but Marconi keeps moving and retains side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like Marconi might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Manlio Marconi has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Arm shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Marconi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Arm won't be happy with that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Break Arm. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Marconi controlling from side mount.
Arm tries to improve position but can't.
Arm is working hard here to advance position.

Marconi decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Arm avoids the head kick by Marconi.

Marconi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Arm tries to buck Marconi off but Marconi is having none of it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Arm is not content to let Marconi control the position.
Marconi moves into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manlio Marconi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Marconi dives in and scores a takedown into Arm's guard.

Arm looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Marconi has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Arm to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Marconi is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Arm pulls down on the head and he's put Marconi to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Break Arm!
