Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronnie Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Ruiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ronnie Jones!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jones shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Ruiz eats them both and turns towards Jones to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Jones shoots in and drives through. Ruiz sprawls well.
Ruiz misses with a wild combination.
Ruiz misses with a double jab.
Ruiz fails to land with a series of punches.
A slapping leg kick lands for Jones.

Jones clinches.

Jones breaks from the clinch.
Ruiz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ruiz tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
Ruiz throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Jones decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ruiz's guard.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Ruiz keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass.
Jones is looking to stand up but Ruiz won't let him.
Jones's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Ronnie Jones has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ruiz but Ruiz pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ruiz sprawls well. Ruiz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.
Johnny Ruiz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ronnie Jones.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ruiz enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ruiz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jones's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Ruiz is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
No joy there for Ruiz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ruiz misses with a body shot.
Ruiz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones tries to clinch but Ruiz moves out of range.

Ruiz scores with a body shot.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Jones looks winded!
Ruiz tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt.
Good shot there by Ruiz.

Ruiz forces Jones back against the cage and clinches.
Ruiz tries to circle away but Jones has him pinned against the cage.

Jones breaks from the clinch.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Ruiz shows good takedown defense.
Ruiz displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ruiz is looking to clinch.
Jones is looking to clinch but Ruiz is avoiding it.
Ruiz tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.

Oooooh!!! Ruiz has knocked Jones down with a huge combo! Ruiz steps away and waves a wobbly Jones back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Jones is rocked!
Jones misses with a hook. Ruiz ducked under it nicely.
Jones is still on wobbly legs! Can Ruiz finish him?
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jones avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ruiz fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ruiz circles away from the clinch attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Ruiz will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Jones moves into the clinch.
Jones seems to have recovered his senses.

Ruiz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Johnny Ruiz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ruiz throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Ruiz lands a left and a right that send Jones crashing to the mat, dazed. Ruiz thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones moves out of range as Ruiz throws a body kick.
A punch combination from Ruiz misses.
Good work by Jones as he checks the leg kick.
Ruiz wants to clinch.

Jones has managed to clinch.
Jones has Ruiz pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ruiz manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Ruiz wants to break free but Jones has control.

Jones has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ruiz avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Jones keeps control of Ruiz as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Ruiz tries to circle away but Jones has him pinned against the cage.
Jones fails to pull guard.
Johnny Ruiz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ronnie Jones.
Ruiz is trying to push Jones away but Jones has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Ruiz wants to get back to striking at distance but Jones won't allow it.
Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ruiz just stands there and leans against the cage.
Ruiz is pressed up against the cage. Jones has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ruiz down to the mat. Ruiz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Ruiz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jones feints and as Ruiz raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Ruiz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ruiz is proving hard to escape from.

Ruiz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jones sitting in guard here, content to control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ruiz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ronnie Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ruiz lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Jones fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Jones closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jones wants to pass to mount but Ruiz is defending the position.
Ruiz wants to get back to his feet.
Ruiz is controlling Jones's position as best he can from this difficult position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones wants to stand up but Ruiz is controlling the position.
Jones scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Ruiz looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ruiz wants to control but Jones is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Ruiz dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Jones drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jones avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Ruiz is retaining full guard.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Ruiz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ruiz manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Ruiz's guard.
Jones won't allow Ruiz to sweep him here.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ruiz is proving hard to escape from.
Jones works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Ruiz is trying to control but Jones passes into side control!
Jones controlling the position.
Ruiz can't do much from the bottom here.

Jones just content to control the position.
Jones working away.

Jones stands up and beckons Ruiz to his feet.

Jones clinches up against the cage.

Jones keeps control of Ruiz as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Jones tries to pull guard but Ruiz holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.
Jones goes for a takedown attempt but Ruiz pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ruiz closes the distance looking to clinch

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jones postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Ruiz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ruiz manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Jones wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Ruiz wants to control the pace but Jones is squirming around nicely.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ruiz tries to push Jones's head away but Jones is holding on tight.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ronnie Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ruiz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
