PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Martin Caradagian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Mercury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Martin Caradagian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pete Mercury!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercury throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Caradagian misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Caradagian shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mercury's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Caradagian wants to control from the top but Mercury keeps moving.
Caradagian stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mercury swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mercury manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Caradagian manages to get himself to full guard.
Mercury throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mercury throws a strike but Caradagian rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Caradagian advances to half guard.

Caradagian thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mercury's head.

Caradagian throwing shots but Mercury is blocking nicely.

Caradagian will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mercury is looking for a sweep. Caradagian is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mercury moves into full guard.
Mercury has momentary wrist control but Caradagian slips an elbow through the middle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mercury has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Caradagian has passed into side control.
Caradagian lands a nice forearm strike.
Mercury takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Mercury parries the strikes from Caradagian easily there. Caradagian is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mercury to escape.
Mercury is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Caradagian off and has taken his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Caradagian turns into Mercury and is now in his guard.

Caradagian throws a big elbow that misses.
Caradagian is in close to Mercury's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Caradagian lands a couple of digs.
Caradagian passes Mercury's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Caradagian thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Mercury moves into full guard.
Caradagian postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Caradagian trying to control but Mercury is working from the bottom.
Caradagian loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Caradagian lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Caradagian working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Mercury trying to control the position.
Mercury can't keep his opponent in guard - Caradagian advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Caradagian has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Caradagian drops an elbow to the side of Mercury's head.
Caradagian works his foot free and advances to mount.
Caradagian with a couple of short strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Mercury is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Caradagian dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Caradagian thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Mercury really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Caradagian. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Caradagian is trying for a kimura here. Mercury looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Caradagian wins by kimura!

After winning the bout, Martin Caradagian thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
