PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Rickets (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyler Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rickets comes into the arena with Ellie Goulding - Lights blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Murphy's choice of entrance music: The Warrior's Code. Chris Rickets has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tyler Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut there from Murphy.
A shot to the liver by Murphy. Beautiful body shot.
Rickets dodges the punch combination from Murphy.
Rickets throws a series of punches but Murphy avoids them all with ease.
Rickets steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Murphy.
Rickets throws a right and a left that Murphy avoids nicely.
Some wild striking there from Murphy.
Murphy throws a hook but Rickets avoids it easily.
Murphy fails with a takedown attempt.
Nice shot lands for Murphy.
Rickets throws a right and a left that both miss.
Murphy connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rickets's hands.
Rickets throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rickets throws a right hand that Murphy ducks under and follows up with a left that Murphy also avoids with ease.
Rickets uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Murphy.

Murphy rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Rickets counters with a three punch combo that has Murphy backing up. Murphy nods at Rickets to acknowledge the strikes.
Murphy lands a jab to the head.
Rickets tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Murphy gets a double leg takedown into Rickets's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Murphy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Murphy wants to control from the top but Rickets keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rickets can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Murphy controls the pace.

Murphy loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Murphy wants to pass the guard but Rickets is keeping the position.

Tyler Murphy has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Murphy misses with an uppercut.
Rickets keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Murphy.
Murphy dodges the punch combination from Rickets.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Murphy avoids a punch combination nicely.

Murphy manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Rickets on his heels. He'll look to pass Rickets's guard now, I'm sure.
Rickets wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Murphy manages to pass to side control.
Murphy is trying to control. Rickets wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Murphy seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Murphy wants to free his trapped foot but Rickets is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Murphy looks to land a strike but Rickets avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Rickets is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Murphy is controlling him.
Murphy is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Murphy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rickets's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Murphy wants to pass to mount but Rickets is defending the position.
Murphy frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyler Murphy dominated that round.
That's time! Rickets's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Rickets counters with a series of strikes. Murphy will be more careful next time no doubt.
Murphy looks to land a right hand but Rickets moved out of range.
Murphy throws a lazy uppercut
and Rickets counters with a three punch combo that has Murphy backing up. Murphy nods at Rickets to acknowledge the strikes.
Rickets will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tyler Murphy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rickets fails to land with a series of punches.

Murphy closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rickets's guard.
Murphy is looking to work some ground and pound but Rickets has wrist control.
Murphy tries to free his leg and advance position but Rickets is retaining full guard.
Murphy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Murphy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rickets works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Murphy passes into half guard.
Murphy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rickets does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Murphy trying to mount his opponent but Rickets defends it.
Rickets knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Murphy on the ground.
Still in half guard, Murphy seems content to control.

Murphy frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Murphy thowing shots but they're missing.
Murphy lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Murphy wants to control the pace but Rickets is squirming around nicely.
Murphy tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Murphy cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Murphy throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Murphy throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Rickets because Murphy loaded up on that one.
A nice elbow there by Murphy.
Murphy is in the full mount, landing strikes.


It looks like Chris Rickets has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Murphy has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rickets's face.


Rickets is rocked!


Chris Rickets's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Rickets on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rickets tries to get out of the position.

Murphy has control of Rickets's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rickets regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Jeez, Chris Rickets's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Chris Rickets's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Our winner, Tyler Murphy, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
