PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Fithen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giant Giant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian Fithen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Giant Giant!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fithen slips under a jab.
Giant defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Fithen.

Fithen closes the distance and clinches.

Giant pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Fithen takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Giant tries to bum rush Fithen with a series of wild strikes but Fithen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Giant gets caught flat footed, as Fithen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Fithen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A telegraphed right hand from Giant misses the target.
Fithen shoots in for a takedown but Giant shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Fithen has managed to clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Fithen.
Giant is trying to break the clinch but Fithen is controlling him.

Fithen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Fithen is looking to clinch but Giant is avoiding it.
Giant swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Fithen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Fithen ducks under a wild hook from Giant.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Giant throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Giant fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Giant misses with a straight left.
Giant swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Giant enables Fithen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Giant manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Fithen wants to control from the top but Giant keeps moving.

Fithen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Giant slaps away a takedown attempt from Fithen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Fithen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Giant stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Fithen.
Giant swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Giant just misses with a punch to the body.
Giant throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Giant misses with a left hand
and Fithen counters with a head kick.

Fithen drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fithen is breathing heavily.
Giant working a defensive guard here.

Fithen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fithen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Giant looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Fithen won't allow Giant to sweep him here.

Fithen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A big left from Giant misses.

Fithen throws a head kick but Giant moves out of range.
Giant avoids the head kick by Fithen.
Giant misses with a looping left.
Fithen displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Giant jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A telegraphed right hand from Giant misses the target.
Fithen takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Fithen blocks a jab.
Fithen showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Giant.
Fithen moves out of range as Giant strikes.
Giant might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Fithen dodges the punch combination from Giant.
Giant misses the jab.
Fithen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Giant's waist but Giant gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fithen off to one side.
Giant Giant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fithen shoots in for a double leg but Giant sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Giant pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Giant looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Fithen slips a jab and a cross from Giant.
Giant throws an off balance right hand
and Fithen counters with a head kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fithen ducks under a wild hook from Giant.
Giant misses with a lunging right hand
and Fithen counters with a series of strikes. Giant will be more careful next time no doubt.
Giant throws a hook but Fithen blocks it.
Fithen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Fithen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Fithen displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Giant throws out the jab.

Giant throws a jab when Fithen was well out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brian Fithen will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Giant throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Fithen sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Fithen gets a double leg takedown into Giant's guard.
Giant is looking to sweep but instead, Fithen has passed into half guard.
Giant is trying to stand back up but Fithen is controlling him
Fithen performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Fithen moves into full mount! Giant won't be happy about that!
Giant wants to try and get back to his feet.
Giant is wriggling around trying to escape.

Fithen sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Giant wants to hold on but Fithen pushes him away.
Fithen content just to control the position here.
Giant really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Fithen controlling his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fithen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Giant is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Brian Fithen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Giant wants to control but Fithen is having none of it.
Fithen is landing with some decent strikes but Giant is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Giant is desperately trying to improve his position but Fithen has a good base and remains in mount.
Fithen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Fithen has isolated one of Giant's arms. Giant looking to fight him off but Fithen twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
