PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Styles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Snabbo Smido (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smido comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Breathe kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Snabbo Smido was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Xavier Styles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Snabbo Smido!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Styles throws a body punch but Smido moves out of range.
Styles throws a solid leg kick but Smido takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Styles.
Smido blocks a low kick nicely.
Smido throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Styles.
Styles will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Styles ducks under a wild hook from Smido.
Smido throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Styles misses with a body shot.
Smido checks a leg kick.
A head kick misses from Styles.
Smido thows a left - swing and a miss!
Styles avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Styles tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Smido cracks Styles with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Styles takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Styles takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Styles bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Smido closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Styles did well to prevent Smido getting side control.
Smido is trying to control. Styles wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Smido lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Styles wants to hold on but Smido pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Styles tries to reverse the position but Smido maintains control.
Smido lands a big shot there that rocks Styles but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Smido takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Smido postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Styles looks a forlorn figure.

Styles is trying desperately to improve position.
Smido can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Styles is looking to escape.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Smido scoring with strikes but Styles is staying in there.

Styles sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Smido moves into full mount! Styles won't be happy about that!

Styles is looking to control Smido's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Styles avoid being mounted?
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Snabbo Smido dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Smido uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Styles.
Smido throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Styles sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Styles fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Smido to the ground. Styles is now in Smido's guard.
Smido trying to keep a closed guard but Styles is proving a slippery customer.

Styles wants to pass the guard but Smido is keeping the position.

Smido tries to free his leg and advance position but Styles is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smido throws a hook to the side of Styles's head but Styles sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Both fighters circling a little - Styles finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Smido might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Styles takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Styles shoots in looking for a takedown. Smido tries to sprawl out of it but Styles keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smido manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Styles shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smido manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Xavier Styles will probably get the nod.

Styles shoots for a double leg takedown but Smido sprawls well. He's pushed Styles's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Snabbo Smido hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smido does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Styles has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Styles there as he acknowledges the shot.

Styles dives in and grabs Smido's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smido pushes down on Styles's head and hops out.
Smido blocks a low kick nicely.
Smido lands a slapping body shot.
Smido scores with a nice head shot.
Smido lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Smido misses with an uppercut. Styles saw that one coming.

Styles looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Styles fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Smido avoids it really well and circles away.

Snabbo Smido comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smido has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
