PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Bomb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Bruce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bomb comes to the cage accompanied by Living Young Wild And Free. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Bomb!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Robert Bruce!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bruce swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Bruce throws a lazy right hand but Bomb sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Bruce throws an off balance right hand

and Bomb decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bruce's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bomb trying to control the position from guard on top but Bruce is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bomb controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up because James Bomb just wasn't active enough.

Bomb is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bruce's half guard.
Bruce is not content to let Bomb control the position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bomb seems to be looking for submissions.
Bomb is looking to take a break and control but Bruce is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bomb looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of James Bomb.
Bruce misses with a hook to the body

so Bomb counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bomb trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Bomb stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Bomb closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bomb lands in his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bomb controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bruce can't keep his opponent in guard - Bomb advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Bruce really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bomb. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bomb passes to full mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bomb controlling from mount.
Bomb mounts Bruce! Really nice guard pass there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Bomb dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bomb looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bruce throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Bruce misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bomb.

Bomb gets a takedown into half guard.
Bomb not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bruce tries to roll over but Bomb keeps him under control.
Bruce won't allow Bomb to pass to mount.
Bomb trying to control the action but Bruce is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up because James Bomb just wasn't active enough.

Bomb manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bruce on his heels. He'll look to pass Bruce's guard now, I'm sure.
Bruce wants to stand up but Bomb is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bruce keeping moving, preventing Bomb from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of James Bomb.
Bruce misses with an uppercut. Bomb saw that one coming.

Bruce gets caught napping as Bomb dives in and scores a takedown. Bruce manages to retain guard.
Bomb wants to pass the guard but Bruce is keeping the position.

Bomb gets to his feet - Bruce follows without any prompting.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bomb throws a head kick but Bruce moves out of range.
Robert Bruce seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bomb scores with a takedown into Bruce's guard.

Bomb gets to his feet. Bruce looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Bomb bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Bruce throws a poor cross that misses

and Bomb counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bomb lands strikes from half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bomb wants to take a breather but Bruce is having none of it.

James Bomb has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Bomb fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bruce sprawls well initially but Bomb persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bruce tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Bomb manages to move to mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bomb tries to control but Bruce wriggling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Bomb dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Bomb counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Bomb maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Bruce could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Bomb has cracked it and Bruce is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Bomb!
