PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mario Trevis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zachary Sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mario Trevis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zachary Sawyer!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sawyer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Trevis wants to clinch.

Trevis moves into range and clinches up with Sawyer.

Trevis pulls guard effortlessly.
Trevis is trying to control the position but Sawyer postures up.

Sawyer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Sawyer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Trevis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Trevis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Trevis is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Trevis is working an open guard so Sawyer takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Trevis gets a clinch.
Sawyer throws a knee to the head but misses.

Sawyer jumps guard and drags Trevis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Trevis drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sawyer dives on top into guard.

Trevis is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sawyer is controlling him.
Trevis really is a fat lump.

Sawyer wants to stand but Trevis has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Sawyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Trevis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Trevis wants to hit a switch here but Sawyer passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Trevis there!
Sawyer trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Sawyer pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Sawyer looking to ground and pound but Trevis is blocking nicely.

Trevis holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Sawyer tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Sawyer is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Trevis to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Trevis shrugs it off.
Sawyer controlling the position easily from mount.
Trevis on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Trevis tries to get out of the position.
Sawyer can't control as he wanted to and Trevis manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Trevis preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zachary Sawyer dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Sawyer closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Trevis's guard.
Sawyer postures up.
Trevis keeping moving, preventing Sawyer from controlling successfully.
Trevis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sawyer trying to control but Trevis is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Zachary Sawyer.
Horrible takedown by Trevis or perhaps it was just good defense by Sawyer which made him look bad.

and Sawyer counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Trevis!
Sawyer tries to control but Trevis wriggling away.

Sawyer manages to capitalize on a mistake by Trevis to take his back!
Sawyer thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Trevis tries to roll but Sawyer sticks to his back.

Trevis staying busy and making it hard for Sawyer to control.
Sawyer lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Trevis hold on?!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sawyer is hanging on to Trevis's back as he tries to escape.
Trevis prevents Sawyer from getting a body triangle.

Trevis defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
Sawyer has a closed guard, preventing Trevis from standing up.

Sawyer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Zachary Sawyer.

Trevis moves into the clinch.
Sawyer misses with a punch to the body.

Trevis turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Trevis manages to end up in side control.

Sawyer is trying to get back to his feet.
Trevis works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Sawyer struggling a bit here.

Trevis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sawyer, who protects the arm well.
Sawyer tries to buck Trevis off but Trevis is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zachary Sawyer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Trevis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Trevis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sawyer as he avoids it easily.
Sawyer swats away the attempt to clinch by Trevis.

Sawyer clinches with his opponent.

Sawyer manages to pull guard.
Zachary Sawyer has got the better of the ground game so far.
Trevis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sawyer looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Trevis puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sawyer is looking to control Trevis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sawyer avoid being mounted?

Trevis works his foot free and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sawyer is squirming around, avoiding Trevis's attempts to control the action.
Trevis lands a big elbow.
Trevis controlling from the full mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sawyer tries to reverse the position but Trevis maintains control.
Sawyer is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Trevis avoids the attempt from Sawyer to control.
Trevis controlling the position easily from mount.
Trevis won't let Sawyer get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sawyer tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Trevis connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Sawyer is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sawyer is trying desperately to improve position.
Trevis landing strikes from the mount.
Sawyer regains half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trevis wants to stand up but Sawyer is controlling the position.
Trevis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Sawyer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sawyer trying to control here.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Zachary Sawyer.
I've got Sawyer winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
