And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Clayton Nogueira!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Nogueira. No joy for Mixirica on that attempt.

Nogueira jumps guard but Mixirica turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Mixirica wants to get back to striking at distance but Nogueira won't allow it.

Mixirica wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Nogueira jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mixirica walks away with a smile on his face. Nogueira gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Marcio Mixirica has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clayton Nogueira.
Nogueira displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mixirica.
Mixirica shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nogueira sprawls well. Nogueira wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mixirica gets slowly back to his feet.

Nogueira tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mixirica just stands there and leans against the cage.

Nogueira keeps control of Mixirica as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Mixirica will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Nogueira up against the cage.

Mixirica shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nogueira but Nogueira pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mixirica swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Nogueira counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mixirica wants to sweep here but Nogueira controlling him for the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mixirica is on top in guard.
Nogueira is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Marcio Mixirica wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Mixirica tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Nogueira manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mixirica tries to clinch up but Nogueira circles away and keeps his distance.
Mixirica fails with the takedown.
Mixirica is looking to clinch but Nogueira is avoiding it.
Mixirica throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Nogueira counters with a single leg into guard. Mixirica didn't expect that.
Mixirica bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nogueira's guard.

Mixirica lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Marcio Mixirica overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mixirica is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nogueira can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Nogueira jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mixirica walks away with a smile on his face. Nogueira gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Nogueira takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mixirica gets the takedown into side control.

Mixirica takes a little break here. Nogueira wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Mixirica grinds an elbow into Nogueira's temple.

Mixirica thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mixirica looks up at the clock and then as Nogueira takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Mixirica smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Mixirica wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nogueira, who protects the arm well.

Mixirica working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Nogueira looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Mixirica! Submission of the night perhaps?
