PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Wes Weddle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lawrence Trainor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weddle's entrance music is remember the name - fort minor. A fine choice. Trainor is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lawrence Trainor!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weddle tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Trainor was well out of range. Poor timing from Weddle.
Trainor wants to clinch.
Weddle looks to throw a body kick
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Weddle is trying hard to land a takedown here. Trainor sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Weddle has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Trainor.
Weddle shoots for a takedown but Trainor saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Trainor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Weddle keeps working.

Trainor is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Weddle still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Weddle has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Nice takedown defense from Trainor. No joy for Weddle on that attempt.

Weddle looks to land a left hand but Trainor moved out of range nicely.

Weddle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Weddle throws a wild body kick that Trainor sees coming a mile off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Weddle's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Weddle throws a looping overhand right but Trainor ducks down to avoid it.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Weddle.

Trainor shoots for a double leg takedown but Weddle sprawls well. He's pushed Trainor's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Trainor dives in and grabs Weddle's left leg, looking for a takedown. Weddle pushes down on Trainor's head and hops out.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Trainor. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Trainor is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Weddle is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Trainor can't fight it off and eventually Weddle manages to take the fight to the floor. Trainor looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Weddle is rocked!
Trainor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Oh Weddle is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Trainor loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Weddle scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Trainor land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Trainor stands and salutes the crowd.
