PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Black Belt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liepo Frendi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Frendi comes into a darkened arena with his song building. War Is My Destiny kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Black Belt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Liepo Frendi!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belt avoids the head kick by Frendi.
Belt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Frendi connects with a body shot.
Belt shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Frendi throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Frendi throws an off balance right hand

so Belt counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Frendi tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Frendi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Belt trying to control the position from guard on top but Frendi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Belt trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Frendi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Frendi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Belt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Belt working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frendi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Belt is one step ahead there.
Belt trying to control the position from guard on top but Frendi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Frendi looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Belt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Belt throwing strikes from guard but Frendi blocks nicely.
Belt wants to control from the top but Frendi keeps moving.
Belt postures up in Frendi's guard and throws a big left but Frendi blocks it.

Belt preventing the sweep.
Belt controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Frendi looking for a sweep. Not yet Frendi, not yet.
Belt with a nice head shot there.
Belt throws a big elbow that misses.
Belt throws an elbow that misses. Frendi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Belt's guard. Nice move by Frendi!
Frendi looking to sit in guard and control but Belt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Belt working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Frendi manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Frendi working for a submission but Belt is keeping him at bay.

Frendi get's back to his feet.
Frendi lands a nice shot that snaps Belt's head back.
Frendi scoring well with a low kick there.
Belt shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Frendi as he avoids it easily.
Belt tries to score a power double leg takedown but Frendi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Belt somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Black Belt. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Belt closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Frendi quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Belt wants to work for an arm triangle but Frendi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Frendi moves into full guard.

Belt throws a big right hand that misses.
Belt trying to control but Frendi is working from the bottom.
Belt won't allow Frendi to sweep him here.
Frendi wants to improve his position but instead Belt has moved into half guard.
Frendi wants to control but Belt is keeping busy.
Belt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Belt lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Black Belt will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Belt drives through with a takedown into Frendi's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Frendi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Belt regains full guard. Nicely done.
Frendi wants to control from the top but Belt keeps moving.
Frendi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Belt had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Frendi defends it easily.

Belt has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Frendi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Frendi is looking to stand up but Belt won't let him.

Belt keeping moving, preventing Frendi from controlling successfully.
Frendi tries to free his leg and advance position but Belt is retaining full guard.
Frendi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Frendi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Belt is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Frendi gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Frendi scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Frendi with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Frendi lands a nice hook to Belt's body. Belt takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Belt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Frendi swivels and escapes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Belt takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Black Belt has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Frendi lands with an uppercut that bounces Belt off the cage and back into range.
Frendi stuffs the takedown.
Nice body kick there by Frendi.
A punch lands to the side of Belt 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Frendi clobbers Belt with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Liepo Frendi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Belt blocks a head kick by Frendi.
Belt takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Frendi feints with a left and delivers a massive head kick! Belt collapses like a ragdoll! Game over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Liepo Frendi!
