The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Flauta wants to pass the guard but Shamrock is keeping the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shamrock can do anything to dispel that myth.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Flauta postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Flauta distracts Shamrock with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Flauta is looking to work some ground and pound but Shamrock has wrist control.
Flauta has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Flauta throws a strike but Shamrock rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Shamrock wants to stand but Flauta is controlling his posture from full guard.

Shamrock wants to control from the top but Flauta keeps moving.
Shamrock trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Flauta lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shamrock!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The referee warns Shamrock that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Shamrock keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Flauta avoids the attempt from Shamrock to control.
Poor strikes thrown by Flauta there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Flauta is landing with some decent strikes but Shamrock is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shamrock is rocked!
Flauta unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Shamrock wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Flauta celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
