Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Manny Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akiyama Shinichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akiyama Shinichi has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Manny Silva's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Manny Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akiyama Shinichi!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Silva jumps guard and drags Shinichi to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Shinichi trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Silva tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Shinichi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silva is keeping the position for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shinichi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silva is on top in guard.
Shinichi wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shinichi moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Silva has worked his arm free - good work by Silva!

Shinichi wants to control but Silva is keeping him busy.
Shinichi content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Silva wants to get back to his feet but Shinichi is dominant here and he's now got Silva's back!

Silva breaks Shinichi's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Shinichi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Shinichi lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Silva!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akiyama Shinichi dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Shinichi enables Silva to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shinichi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Akiyama Shinichi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Silva sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Shinichi's guard.
Shinichi manages to get to full guard.
Shinichi looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Silva puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Shinichi. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Silva lands a nice short elbow.

Silva wants to work for an arm triangle but Shinichi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Silva closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Silva manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Silva can't keep his opponent in guard - Shinichi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Shinichi passes Silva's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Shinichi wants to pass the guard but Silva is defending well.

Shinichi is looking for a kimura but Silva is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shinichi to get the leverage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Manny Silva will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Shinichi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Shinichi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Silva has his foot on Shinichi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shinichi works his way back into a safe position though.

Shinichi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Silva has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shinichi has managed to get both his arms back between Silva's legs - danger averted.

Shinichi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Silva avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Shinichi is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Shinichi jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Silva manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Shinichi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shinichi advances nicely into full mount.
Silva keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Shinichi goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Silva turns into him and now he's in Shinichi's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Manny Silva.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
