PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cruz Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Jamesion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cruz Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Jamesion!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Jamesion moves into the clinch.
Diaz is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Diaz wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Jamesion pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jamesion throws a leg kick that misses.

Diaz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jamesion can do anything to dispel that myth.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Jamesion will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Jamesion has a closed guard, preventing Diaz from standing up.
Jamesion is adopting a defensive guard.
Jamesion's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Jamesion looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jamesion has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Jamesion trying to keep a closed guard but Diaz is proving a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mark Jamesion was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Diaz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jamesion pinned against the cage. Jamesion gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jamesion throws a right hand that Diaz ducks under and follows up with a left that Diaz also avoids with ease.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jamesion avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jamesion swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Jamesion scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Jamesion prevents Diaz from improving his position.
Jamesion takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jamesion works his way into full mount!
Diaz is desperately trying to improve his position but Jamesion has a good base and remains in mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz has given up his back here.
Jamesion is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Diaz. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Jamesion is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Jamesion is punishing Diaz with some ground and pound.
Diaz is trying to break free.
Jamesion slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Jamesion is looking for the choke from the back position but Diaz is controlling his hands well.
Jamesion lands shots from the back.

Jamesion looking to break Diaz's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Diaz remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Jamesion will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Diaz trying to control the hands but Jamesion breaks the grip.
Jamesion softening up his opponent with strikes here.
Jamesion really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Diaz.
Jamesion lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Diaz hold on?!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Diaz trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Jamesion dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Jamesion moves out of range as Diaz strikes.
Diaz moves in looking to clinch but Jamesion pushes him off.

Jamesion closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Diaz is trying to get back to full guard.
Jamesion is keen to just control but Diaz is a slippery customer.
Diaz trying to get back to full guard but Jamesion takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Jamesion working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Diaz looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Jamesion! Submission of the night perhaps?
