PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Colon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lew Alcindor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Colon comes to the cage accompanied by TRAUMATIZED-Meek Mill. Alcindor is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: could you be loved by Bob Marley. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lew Alcindor!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A cross from Colon lands.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Alcindor ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Colon fails to land the takedown.
Colon connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Alcindor's hands.
Alcindor slips a straight right by Colon.
Colon misses with an uppercut.
Colon tests Alcindor's chin there with a solid looking shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Alcindor looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Alcindor tries to pass to full mount but Colon defends it.
Alcindor seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Colon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Colon wants to improve his position but Alcindor is controlling well.
Colon is working hard here to advance position.
Colon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Alcindor's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Alcindor's back!

Colon keeps control of the position as Alcindor tries to break free.
Colon is trying to stick to Alcindor's back but Alcindor is turning into Colon. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Colon's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Alcindor.

Alcindor trying to mount his opponent but Colon defends it.
Colon tries to roll over but Alcindor keeps him under control.
Alcindor moves nicely into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Colon is looking to reverse the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Alcindor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Colon keeps working.
Colon is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Alcindor asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Colon is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Colon is pushing Alcindor's head away, looking to escape. Alcindor manages to hold on to the position though.
Colon is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Colon gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Alcindor is pressing down on Colon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Colon is holding on for now.

Colon looking for submissions off his back.
Alcindor works his way into full mount!
Alcindor scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Alcindor lands a heavy elbow.
Colon sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Colon gets full guard.
Alcindor working some strikes from top position.
Alcindor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Colon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Alcindor slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Colon manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Colon has his foot on Alcindor's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alcindor works his way back into a safe position though.
Alcindor passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Alcindor working the body and head with strikes.
Alcindor creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Alcindor lands a decent elbow from side control.


Colon is rocked!
Alcindor working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Oh Colon is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Colon is trying to improve his position.
Colon is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lew Alcindor dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Alcindor looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Colon!
Colon seems to have got his legs back now.
Colon is in all sorts of trouble here.
Alcindor working the ground and pound effectively.
Lew Alcindor has got the better of the ground game so far.
Colon is desperately trying to improve his position but Alcindor has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Colon's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Colon is trying to escape the mount.

Alcindor working for a submission but Colon is keeping him at bay.

Colon gets back to half guard.
Alcindor takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Colon won't allow Alcindor to pass to mount.
Colon tries to roll over but Alcindor keeps him under control.
Alcindor tries to pass the half guard into mount. Colon knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Colon is looking to escape.
Alcindor has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Colon can't escape the position.
BOOM! Alcindor connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Colon is looking to improve his position but Alcindor isn't that keen on the idea.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Colon takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alcindor connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Colon tries to reverse the position but Alcindor maintains control.
Colon is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Alcindor postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Colon out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Alcindor goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Lew Alcindor!

Lew Alcindor spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
