Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Sunshine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazushi Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Sunshine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kazushi Sakuraba!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakuraba uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sunshine.
Danga de danga de dang - Sunshine scores with a four punch combination!
Sunshine tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sakuraba was well out of range. Poor timing from Sunshine.
Sakuraba paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Sunshine misses with a lunging right hand

and Sakuraba counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sunshine!

Sakuraba with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sakuraba working for a submission but Sunshine is keeping him at bay.
Sunshine knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sakuraba on the ground.
Sunshine is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Sakuraba looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Sunshine has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Well, with Sakuraba on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Sunshine is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sakuraba has Sunshine flattened out and is raining down punches.

Sakuraba is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Sunshine has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Sakuraba is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Sakuraba gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Sakuraba gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Sakuraba apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Sunshine swings for the body but Sakuraba moves out of range.
Sakuraba connects with a looping right hand.
A left lands for Sakuraba.
Sunshine throws a looping overhand right but Sakuraba ducks down to avoid it.

and Sakuraba counters with a straight right hand.

Sunshine missing with a left hand there. Sakuraba was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Sakuraba slips under a jab from Sunshine.
No joy there for Sakuraba, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sunshine misses the jab.
Sakuraba closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sunshine circles away.
Sunshine is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Sakuraba.
Sakuraba blocks a jab.
Sunshine paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Sunshine just misses with a punch to the body.
Sakuraba moves away from the strike by Sunshine.
Sakuraba uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sunshine.
Sunshine misses the shot to the body.
Good exchange - Sunshine coming out on top.
Sunshine defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sakuraba.

This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters circling - Sunshine throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sakuraba.
Peter Sunshine has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kazushi Sakuraba.
A punch combination from Sakuraba misses.
A telegraphed right hand from Sunshine misses the target.
Sakuraba displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sunshine throws out the jab.
Sakuraba fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sunshine looks to land a left hand but Sakuraba moved out of range nicely.
Sakuraba closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sunshine circles away.

Sakuraba is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sunshine's half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Sunshine wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kazushi Sakuraba dominated that round.
That's time! Sunshine's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sakuraba misses with a two punch combination.
Sunshine is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Sakuraba's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Sakuraba misses with a hook. Sunshine ducked under it nicely.
Sakuraba dives in and grabs Sunshine's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sunshine pushes down on Sakuraba's head and hops out.
A combination from Sunshine does no damage.
Sunshine swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Sunshine tries to sprawl but Sakuraba drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Sakuraba is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Sakuraba seems to be working for a kimura but Sunshine defends the submission attempt.

Sakuraba is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sunshine is just riding it out for now. Sakuraba eventually gives up the hold.
Sakuraba is looking to advance position but Sunshine won't allow it.
Sunshine is trying to maintain the position but Sakuraba is very close to passing his half guard.
Sakuraba has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Sunshine is in trouble now - Sakuraba has advanced to mount!

Sakuraba has control of Sunshine's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Sunshine regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Sakuraba manages to capitalize on a mistake by Sunshine to take his back!

Sakuraba working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Sunshine is doing well to defend. Sakuraba seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Sunshine is forced to tap and this one is over!
