The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nikil walks into a left hand.

It looks like Kenrick Nikil has been cut.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Phillips lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

That has opened up Kenrick Nikil's cut even more.
Phillips thows a body shot but no joy.
A telegraphed right hand from Nikil misses the target.
Phillips lands with a nice body punch.
Phillips uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nikil.
Phillips displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nikil.
Phillips slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Phillips is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nikil tries to free his leg and advance position but Phillips is retaining full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Phillips bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nikil's guard.
Phillips is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Phillips wants to control from the top but Nikil keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kent Phillips just wasn't active enough.

Nikil has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Phillips after a bit of a struggle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nikil swings wildly with an uppercut but Phillips uses good head movement to avoid it.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Nikil has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Phillips is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phillips tries to work over Nikil's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Nikil has Phillips pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Phillips manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Phillips pushes Nikil against the cage. Phillips is working some dirty boxing. Phillips pushes off with a quick right hook! Nikil goes down! Nikil tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Phillips moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!
