PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Thomas McManus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Bowens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Cody Bowens was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas McManus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Bowens!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Bowens. No joy for McManus on that attempt.

Bowens throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. McManus was covering up waiting for the punch and Bowens finishes the takedown easily into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
McManus is looking to stand up but Bowens isn't so interested in that idea.
McManus really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bowens stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McManus swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McManus avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bowens is stalling in the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cody Bowens was stalling too much, according to the referee.

McManus moves into the clinch.

Bowens gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Bowens is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Bowens postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McManus wants to stand and escape but Bowens is having none of it.
Bowens not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Bowens is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bowens works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Still in half guard, Bowens seems content to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bowens seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Bowens working over McManus with some ground and pound. McManus looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bowens seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Bowens works his way into full mount!
McManus is breathing heavily.

McManus is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
McManus trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Bowens looking to control and managing it successfully.
Bowens is in the full mount, landing strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bowens is landing with some decent strikes but McManus is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bowens content just to control the position here.
McManus's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Bowens dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


McManus misses with a wild combination.

McManus is trying to stand back up but Bowens is controlling him
Bowens tries to pass the half guard into mount. McManus knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Bowens scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Bowens perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
McManus pushes Bowens off but Bowens dives into side control.
Bowens lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
McManus trying to remain calm as Bowens controls from the top position.
McManus is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Bowens landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Bowens slows the pace down.
McManus takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

McManus is trying to escape the position but Bowens is controlling the position.
Oh McManus is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
McManus seems to have got his legs back now.

Bowens scores with a couple of short elbows.
Check out the look on Bowens's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Bowens cracks McManus with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Bowens immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! McManus is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Bowens!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cody Bowens!
