PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roger Bingham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Whissell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roger Bingham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George Whissell!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whissell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Whissell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bingham as he jumps to the side.
Whissell swinging wilding here.

Whissell moves into range and clinches up with Bingham.

Whissell manages to pull guard.
Whissell looking to control.
Bingham is looking to stand up but Whissell won't let him.
Whissell wants to stand but Bingham is controlling the position.
Bingham stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Whissell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bingham throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Whissell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bingham wants to pass the guard but Whissell is keeping the position.
Whissell is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Whissell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Roger Bingham has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of George Whissell.
Whissell moves in looking to clinch but Bingham pushes him off.
Whissell throws a leg kick that misses.
Whissell looks to land a left hand but Bingham moved out of range nicely.
Whissell doesn't manage to clinch there - Bingham circles away.
Bingham swats away the attempt to clinch by Whissell.
Bingham moves out of range of the body kick.
Whissell misses with a body kick.
Whissell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bingham as he avoids it easily.
George Whissell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Whissell wants to clinch up but Bingham keeps it at a distance.

Bingham shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bingham passes into side control, despite Whissell's attempt to control the position.

You can see the frustration on Whissell's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Whissell is looking for a sweep.

Bingham is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Whissell is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bingham is breathing heavily.
Bingham in side control, throwing shots but Whissell defends.

Bingham thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bingham tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bingham has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Whissell is trying to get back to half guard.

Whissell is not content to let Bingham control the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Whissell closes the distance and clinches.
Whissell fails to pull guard.
Bingham wants a takedown.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Whissell tries to roll over but Bingham keeps him under control.

Bingham is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whissell is just riding it out for now. Bingham eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bingham is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.
Bingham trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Whissell manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roger Bingham will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Whissell lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Bingham backs up against the cage.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Whissell is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Whissell is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Bingham is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
