PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aleskander Murko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Al Qaida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Qaida's choice of entrance music: The Star-Spangled Banner. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aleskander Murko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Al Qaida!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Steve Montenegro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Qaida tries to close the distance and clinch but Murko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Qaida motions for Murko to come forward. Qaida throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Murko shoots in for a double leg but Qaida sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Murko.
Qaida is looking to slow Murko down with leg kicks.
Murko shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Qaida as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aleskander Murko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Murko tries a head kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Qaida slips under a jab from Murko.
Qaida throws a right and a left that both miss.
The fight stays on the outside here - Qaida looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Qaida misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Qaida tries to clinch there but Murko circles away.
Murko fails with the takedown.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Qaida has eaten all the pies!
Horrible takedown by Murko or perhaps it was just good defense by Qaida which made him look bad.
Qaida is looking to clinch but Murko is avoiding it.
Murko swats away the attempt to clinch by Qaida.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Murko shoots in but no luck this time.

Murko shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Murko working the ground and pound effectively.
Murko will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Murko jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Qaida is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Qaida and Murko has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Murko is breathing heavily.

Murko working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Qaida is pushing Murko's head away, looking to escape. Murko manages to hold on to the position though.

Qaida is trying to control Murko's posture but Murko avoids it.

Murko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Murko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Qaida wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Murko misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Qaida is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Murko in side control, throwing shots but Qaida defends.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Murko fails with a takedown attempt.
Qaida fails with an attempt to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Aleskander Murko will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Al Qaida's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Qaida tries to close the distance and clinch up but Murko swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Murko. Qaida shrugs it off though.
Qaida throws a head kick but Murko moves out of range.
Aleskander Murko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Qaida tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Murko misses with a takedown attempt - Qaida sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Qaida stuffs the takedown attempt from Murko. Murko gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aleskander Murko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Murko throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Murko closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Murko lands in his opponent's guard.
Murko content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Qaida is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Murko jumps guard but Qaida stands there with Murko around his waist. Murko gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Qaida connects with a nasty looking knee right to Murko's face.


It looks like Aleskander Murko has been cut.

Qaida breaks the clinch.
Qaida cracks the inside of Murko's front leg.

Qaida tries to clinch up.
Qaida scores with a nice body kick.
Al Qaida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Qaida throws a combination that misses

and Murko counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Murko wants to control from the top but Qaida keeps moving.
Murko prevents Qaida from getting back to his feet.
Murko trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Qaida preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Murko drops back, looking for a kneebar! Qaida looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Qaida looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Qaida!
Murko is not content to let Qaida control the position.
Murko manages to get back to half guard.
Murko trying to control but Qaida postures up.
Murko is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Qaida's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Qaida's back!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Murko trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Murko is really struggling to control Qaida but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Murko is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Qaida. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Murko is persistently looking for the submission but Qaida is defending it well.
Murko is riding his opponent, not letting Qaida buck him off.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Qaida takes a big shot to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aleskander Murko dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Murko takes a knee right on the jaw!

Murko turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Qaida tries to buck Murko off but Murko is having none of it.
Murko trying to control the action but Qaida is working from the bottom.
Murko creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Qaida takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Murko advances nicely into full mount.

Murko is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Qaida has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Murko is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Qaida is in real trouble.

Murko is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Qaida is taking damage to the body and head.
Qaida trying to control but not successfully.

Qaida is really stuck here.

Murko has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Even with his hooks in, Murko manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Murko is striking from the back but Qaida escapes and manages to recover to half guard.
Qaida looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Murko is working for a kimura but Qaida is defending it quite comfortably.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Murko shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Qaida as he jumps to the side.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Qaida.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Murko shoots in but no luck this time.
Qaida tries to close the distance and clinch but Murko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Qaida moves in looking to clinch but Murko pushes him off.
Murko connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Qaida tumbling to the canvas! Murko pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Qaida was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Aleskander Murko!
