Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Hathaway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick Alves!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves wants to clinch.

Alves looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Hathaway is adopting a defensive guard.
Alves wants to control from the top but Hathaway keeps moving.
Hathaway has Alves pulled in close to control his posture.
Alves trying to control but Hathaway is working from the bottom.
Alves must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hathaway looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Daniel Hathaway wasn't doing enough on the ground.
A left and a right from Hathaway both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Nick Alves has been cut.
A punch combination from Hathaway misses.

Alves gets the takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hathaway is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hathaway on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hathaway tries to get out of the position.
Alves takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Alves is keen to just control but Hathaway is a slippery customer.

Hathaway manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Alves shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hathaway sprawls well. Hathaway wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alves gets slowly back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hathaway lands a head kick!

Hathaway lands a big right hand that sends Alves crashing to the mat! Hathaway stays standing though and waves Alves back to his feet!


Alves is rocked!
Alves gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Hathaway counters with a right hand from hell and Alves is out cold! A vicious knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Daniel Hathaway!
Daniel Hathaway seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
