PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eric Cain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Palhares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palhares has chosen Metallica - Enter Sandman as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eric Cain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Antonio Palhares!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palhares tries for a takedown but Cain circles away easily
and Cain cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Palhares doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Cain counters with a single leg into guard. Palhares didn't expect that.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Cain slips nicely into half guard.

Cain is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Palhares doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cain.
Cain is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cain seems to be working for a kimura but Palhares defends the submission attempt.

Palhares moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Cain seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Cain works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Cain will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are battling for position here. Palhares manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Cain stands and steps away. Palhares gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Cain feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Palharess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cain closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Palhares looks winded!

Cain working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Cain cracks Palhares with a big right hand but Palhares just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Palhares sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Cain thows a huge punch but Palhares dodges it nicely.

Cain is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cain stalling.

Palhares won't allow Cain to pass to mount.
Cain has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Cain punishing his opponent with strikes.
Cain working away from the top, dropping strikes.

Cain is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Palhares can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Cain tries to control but Palhares wriggling away.

Cain with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Cain trying to control but Palhares is having none of it.
Palhares is trying desperately to improve position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Cain stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Palhares has his takedown stuffed
and Cain counters with a good low kick that Palhares was not able to check.
Eric Cain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Palhares.

and Cain counters with a head kick that drops Palhares to the mat! Palhares scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!


Palhares is rocked!
Cain connects with a nice cross there... Palhares is looking wobbly and Cain recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Palhares to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - Cain jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Eric Cain!
Our winner, Eric Cain, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
