Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricco James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clark Rodriguez! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodriguez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from James. Rodriguez gets a double leg takedown into James's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Rodriguez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Rodriguez is stalling in the full guard. Rodriguez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Rodriguez trying to control but James is working from the bottom. James wants to sweep here but Rodriguez controlling him for the moment. James looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ricco James wasn't doing enough on the ground. James shoots in but no luck this time. James feints a jab promting Rodriguez to slip. James then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Rodriguez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rodriguez is defended easily by James. Rodriguez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching James on his heels. He'll look to pass James's guard now, I'm sure.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! James is trying to keep Rodriguez in close.

Rodriguez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricco James. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rodriguez feints and as James raises his hands in defense, Rodriguez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

James is breathing heavily. Rodriguez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and James dives on top into guard. Rodriguez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
James preventing the sweep. James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rodriguez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Rodriguez's legs - danger averted. Rodriguez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
James postures up in Rodriguez's guard and throws a big left but Rodriguez blocks it. Rodriguez looking to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rodriguez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. James manages to get himself to full guard.
Rodriguez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. James is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. James trying to control the position.
Rodriguez advances position into side control! You can see the frustration on James's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Rodriguez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, James has escaped the position, nice work there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sloppy strikes there by Rodriguez. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Clark Rodriguez dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Rodriguez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! James is trying to escape the mount.
Rodriguez working for a guillotine from mount but James is in no mood to give up. Rodriguez has control of James's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and James regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Rodriguez unloads with some shots from mount but James bucks and avoids them well.
Rodriguez trying to control but James is having none of it. Rodriguez thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodriguez misses with a head shot. James sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. James wants to control but Rodriguez is keeping busy and won't allow it. Rodriguez has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Clark Rodriguez has got the better of the ground game so far. Rodriguez with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Rodriguez looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Rodriguez sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
That's two minutes gone in the round. James tries to hold on but Rodriguez pushes him away. Rodriguez content just to control the position here. James is in all sorts of trouble here.
James wants to control but Rodriguez is having none of it. Rodriguez throwing strikes here but James is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rodriguez working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. James looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Rodriguez! Submission of the night perhaps?
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Clark Rodriguez! After the fight, Clark Rodriguez was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
