Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabio Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hose Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fabio Gomes!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes throws a head kick but Aldo moves out of range.

Gomes has closed the distance and engaged Aldo in a clinch.
Aldo stops a takedown attempt from Gomes.
Aldo wants to get back to striking at distance but Gomes won't allow it.
Gomes keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Aldo's efforts to push away.
Gomes goes for a takedown attempt but Aldo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Gomes stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Aldo.
Aldo misses with a few strikes there.
Gomes has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Aldo fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Fabio Gomes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomes tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Aldo counters with a nice leg kick.
Aldo throws a nice inside leg kick.

Nice takedown defense from Aldo. No joy for Gomes on that attempt.
Hose Aldo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fabio Gomes.
Aldo blocks a head kick by Gomes.
Gomes takes one to the side of the head.
Aldo feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gomes's calf.
Gomes with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Aldo to score with a decent uppercut.
Aldo connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gomes. Gomes circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Aldo connects with a looping right hand.

Gomes moves into range and clinches up with Aldo.
Gomes is looking to take this one to the mat.
Aldo taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Gomes prevents Aldo from breaking the clinch.
Gomes manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Gomes can't get the takedown.

Aldo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Aldo connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Aldo lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Gomes feints and as Aldo raises his hands in defense, Gomes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gomes trying to control the position from guard on top but Aldo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Aldo wants to sweep here but Gomes controlling him for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aldo is trying to keep Gomes in close.
Aldo wants to get back to his feet but Gomes passes into half guard.
Aldo tries to kick Gomes off but Gomes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Nice strikes from Gomes there.
Aldo is trying to stand.
Aldo is breathing heavily.

Gomes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gomes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gomes lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hose Aldo dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


The crowd cheers as Aldo lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gomes doesn't seem phased though.

Gomes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Aldo was covering up waiting for the punch and Gomes finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Gomes tries to free his leg and advance position but Aldo is retaining full guard.

Gomes is looking to work some ground and pound but Aldo has wrist control.

Gomes passes Aldo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gomes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Aldo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Gomes has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Aldo defend it? Gomes steps over the head and cranks it - Aldo is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Gomes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Fabio Gomes!
A relieved looking Fabio Gomes thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
