Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Takashi Oni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bronko Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson has chosen Azad - Bandog as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oni closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Oni lands in his opponent's guard.

Oni is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Johnson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Johnson has escaped and now he's on top!

Oni is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Johnson works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Johnson wants to pass to mount but Oni is defending the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Oni is looking to regain half guard here but Johnson keeps moving and retains side control.

Johnson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Oni rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Johnson's guard! Nice work there by Oni!
Johnson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Oni working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Johnson's head.

Oni in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Johnson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Oni defends well.

Oni has gone for a leg lock! Johnson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Oni's guard.

Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Oni had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Johnson defends it easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Johnson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Still in half guard, Johnson seems content to control.
Johnson winds up and cracks Oni with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Oni still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Oni has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Oni is putting a hurting on Johnson here, landing some big shots from side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Johnson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Johnson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Oni sprawls well initially but Johnson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Johnson is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Oni is in real trouble.

Johnson is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
I really don't envy Oni right now.
