PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ka Bann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyler Durden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ka Bann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyler Durden!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Durden thows a body shot but no joy.
Durden tries a head kick but it misses.
Bann scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Bann forces Durden back against the cage and clinches.
Bann lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Tyler Durden has been cut.
Stalling in the clinch from Bann.
Durden has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Bann breaks the clinch.
Durden shoots in looking for a takedown. Bann tries to sprawl out of it but Durden keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bann manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Durden throws a sloppy head kick and Bann moves out of range easily.
Durden misses with a takedown
and Bann counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Durden enables Bann to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Durden manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bann decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Ka Bann seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Durden pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Bann gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Bann manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Durden throws a head kick that misses.

Bann darts in and clinches Durden up against the cage.
Bann stalling the fight.

Bann jumps guard and drags Durden to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bann wants to stand but Durden is controlling the position.
Bann wants to sweep here but Durden controlling him for the moment.
Durden stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bann swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bann is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Durden tries to stand but Bann is controlling from the bottom.
Durden loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Durden clinches up with Bann and pushes him back against the cage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Durden trying to control the position but instead, Bann has worked for underhooks and has pushed Durden into the cage.

Durden tries to pull guard but Bann holds him up against the cage and eventually Durden drops back down to his feet.
Ka Bann has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyler Durden.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bann has Durden pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Bann pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Durden tumbling to the mat - Bann dives into Durden's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Bann closes the distance and pushes Durden back into the cage.
Bann comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Durden tries to pull guard but Bann won't allow it.

Bann turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bann manages to end up in side control.
A lull in the action here.

Bann swings around for an armbar but Durden sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bann's guard.

Bann wants to hit a switch here but Durden passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Bann there!
Ka Bann overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Durden throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Bann because Durden loaded up on that one.

Bann really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Durden is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bann can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Bann is in all sorts of trouble here.
Bann is squirming around, avoiding Durden's attempts to control the action.
Bann keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Bann is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Bann knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Durden on the ground.

Durden misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Bann stops Durden from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Bann reaches up to try and control the position but Durden seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Bann rolls and tries to escape and now Durden has his back!
Despite being in a bad position, Bann is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts.

Durden gets his hands free as Bann looks to control.
Durden struggling to keep hold of the position.
Bann looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bann has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Durden.
Durden trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Durden is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Durden might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bann kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

A close second round but Tyler Durden will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Bann dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Bann seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Bann escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bann takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Bann has managed to clinch.

Bann has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Durden uses from the top position.
Bann has control of Durden's left arm, preventing Durden from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tyler Durden was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Bann fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Durden, pushing him back against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Bann has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Durden clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Bann is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Durden is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Bann has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ka Bann.
Well Bann has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
