PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sinisa Veljko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Salvador Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Veljko comes to the cage accompanied by Stemm - Face the pain. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Sinisa Veljko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Salvador Cannon!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Veljko takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Cannon throws a head kick that misses.
Veljko throws out a loose jab but Cannon uses good head movement to avoid it.

Cannon gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Veljko to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Veljko trying to control the position from guard on top but Cannon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cannon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Cannon has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Veljko off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Cannon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Cannon stands and steps away. Veljko gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Cannon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Salvador Cannon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cannon wants to slow Veljko down by chopping away at his legs.
The fight stays on the outside here - Veljko looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cannon throws a head kick that misses.
Cannon shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Cannon throws a push kick but Veljko slaps the foot to one side.
Veljko lands a nice shot that snaps Cannon's head back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Veljko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Veljko is looking to take a break and control but Cannon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Veljko seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cannon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Veljko has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cannon wants to try and get back to his feet.
Veljko can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cannon is looking to escape.
Veljko fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

You get the feeling that Cannon really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Veljko connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Veljko is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cannon can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Veljko's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Cannon counters with a body kick that stops Veljko in his tracks momentarily.
Veljko pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Veljko fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cannon has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Cannon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cannon throws a sloppy head kick and Veljko moves out of range easily.

Salvador Cannon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cannon moves out of range of the strikes.
Cannon tries a head kick but it misses.

A jab from Veljko finds it's way through Cannon's defenses.

Veljko pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cannon throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Veljko counters with a left to the body.

Veljko closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cannon to the mat! Cannon manages to get full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Sinisa Veljko just wasn't active enough.
A low kick from Cannon is predictable there

so Veljko counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Veljko throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cannon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Cannon.

Veljko drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Veljko wants to control but Cannon is keeping him busy.

Cannon pushes Veljko off and gets back to his feet.
Cannon finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Veljko takes a swing at Cannon's ribcage but misses.

Cannon is trying to stand up here but Veljko is controlling him well.
