Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Nicholls!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Torello!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torello throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Nicholls sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Nicholls shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Torello sprawls well. Torello wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nicholls gets slowly back to his feet.
Nicholls shoots in but no luck this time.
Nicholls is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Nicholls looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Nicholls. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nicholls uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Torello.
Torello on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Torello throws a looping overhand right but Nicholls ducks down to avoid it.
Nicholls shoots in for a takedown but Torello shows good takedown defense.
Nicholls doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Torello counters with a nice uppercut.

Nicholls scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Torello makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Torello.

Nicholls tries to free his leg and advance position but Torello is retaining full guard.

Nicholls avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Torello has his foot on Nicholls's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nicholls works his way back into a safe position though.
Torello looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Nicholls got a little sloppy there for a moment and Torello has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nicholls has managed to get both his arms back between Torello's legs - danger averted.
Torello is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Torello tries to land a sweep but no joy.

We're going to have a standup here because Peter Nicholls wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and Nicholls takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Nicholls blocks a head kick by Torello.
Nicholls shoots in for a takedown but Torello shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Nicholls on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Torello throws a lazy uppercut
and Nicholls counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Torello throws a poor cross that misses
and Torello takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Torello pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A punch lands to the side of Nicholls 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Torello lands a jab to the head.


Nicholls is rocked!
Torello connects with the punch.
Oh Nicholls is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Torello cracks Nicholls with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Nicholls falls to his knees and Torello doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Torello! James Torello retains his bantamweight title!
A relieved looking James Torello thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
