PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Zakk Wylde (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Redl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wylde's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, A Song For You by Zack Wylde. The key to victory for Zakk Wylde has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zakk Wylde!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tom Redl!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wylde lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Redl takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Redl shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tom Redl seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wylde throws a head kick but Redl moves out of range.

Redl gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Redl tightens his grip and picks Wylde up, before dumping him to the ground. Wylde manages to land in guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Wylde is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wylde utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wylde is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wylde is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Redl content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Wylde is trying to control the position but Redl postures up.
Redl makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Redl stands up and waves to Wylde to follow him.
Wylde throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Redl closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Redl lands in his opponent's guard.
Redl wants to control from the top but Wylde keeps moving.
Redl is looking to work some ground and pound but Wylde has wrist control.
Redl in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Redl wants to pass the guard but Wylde is keeping the position.

Wylde escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Redl gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Redl decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wylde, up you get!

Redl has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Wylde.
Redl fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Redl.
Redl looks winded!
Wylde manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Wylde seems to be working for a kimura but Redl defends the submission attempt.

Redl manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Redl chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Wylde can pounce on him.
Zakk Wylde is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wylde moves away from the strike by Redl.
Wylde blocks the body kick.

Redl fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Zakk Wylde has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Redl.
A slapping leg kick lands for Wylde.
Wylde chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Redl throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wylde was covering up waiting for the punch and Redl finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Wylde working for a triangle but Redl defends it easily.
Redl must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Wylde preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Wylde not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Wylde bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Redl's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Redl is looking to stand up but Wylde isn't so interested in that idea.

Redl can't keep his opponent in guard - Wylde advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Wylde stalling away here and it's allowed Redl to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Wylde trying to control but Redl is working from the bottom.
Wylde trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Redl is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wylde is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tom Redl will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Some wild striking there from Wylde.
Wylde tries a head kick but it misses.
Wylde connects with an inside leg kick.
Redl dives in and grabs Wylde's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wylde pushes down on Redl's head and hops out.
Wylde fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Redl has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Redl misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wylde tries a head kick but it misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Redl is defended easily by Wylde.
Zakk Wylde has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Redl.
Wylde throws a head kick that misses.
An inside leg kick lands from Wylde.
Wylde connects with a high kick.
Wylde moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Redl shoots in and drives through. Wylde sprawls well.
Redl is breathing heavily.

Wylde throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Redl.
Redl is looking to chop away at Wylde's legs.
Zakk Wylde is winning the standup battle so far.
Wylde connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Good leg kick by Wylde there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Redl takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Wylde lands with a kick to the temple. Redl shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Wylde lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Redl changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wylde tries to avoid it but Redl manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wylde to the ground. Wylde escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wylde connects with a solid leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A slapping leg kick lands for Wylde.
Redl on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Wylde throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Redl's head.


It looks like Tom Redl has been cut.
Wylde thows a body kick. Redl tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Wylde throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Wylde lands a head kick. Redl smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Wylde lands a nice leg kick that just misses Redl's sensitive parts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wylde throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Redl.


Redl is rocked!

Redl gets a double leg takedown into Wylde's guard.
Redl really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wylde. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Wylde pushes a forearm under Redl's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Redl is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Zakk Wylde!
