PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between General Tudman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Rafferty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rafferty has chosen Enter Shikari - Sorry You're Not A Winner as his entrance music. General Tudman has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, General Tudman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Aaron Rafferty!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Ackerman and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rafferty shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rafferty showed some decent athleticism there.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

and Rafferty counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Tudman's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rafferty wants to control from the top but Tudman keeps moving.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Aaron Rafferty hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

and Tudman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rafferty defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Tudman.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Tudman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tudman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tudman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tudman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rafferty swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rafferty controls Tudman momentarily but Tudman frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tudman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rafferty manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Tudman has Rafferty in his guard.
Rafferty must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tudman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rafferty doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rafferty manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tudman is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Rafferty is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
