PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leon Maes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Roach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Leon Maes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frank Roach!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maes moves away from the strike by Roach.
Maes stalks Roach and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Roach's face. Roach staggers backwards, shaken.


That has opened up Frank Roach's cut even more.
Roach fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Maes manages to avoid it.
Maes cracks Roach with a right hand to the side of the head.
Maes wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Horrible takedown by Roach or perhaps it was just good defense by Maes which made him look bad.
Maes swinging wildly here.
Maes staying out of range there.
Roach throws a lazy uppercut
and Maes counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Roach thinking.
Roach misses with a takedown attempt - Maes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A left and a right from Maes both land. Nice combination.
Roach misses with a hook.
Roach throws out a leg kick but Maes moves out of range and Roach only half commits.
Roach takes a swing at Maes's ribcage but misses.
Maes moves out of range as Roach strikes.
Maes uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Roach.
Roach scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
A low kick from Roach misses
and Maes counters with a two punch combo.
Maes fails to land with a series of punches.
Maes lands a nice shot that snaps Roach's head back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maes scores with a one two! Roach had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Maes lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A decent looking cross lands there for Maes.

Roach fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Maes to the ground. Roach is now in Maes's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Roach trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Roach being controlled here momentarily.
Maes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Roach is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Roach trying to control but Maes is working from the bottom.
Roach working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Roach throws a big right hand that misses.
Roach stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Roach avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Roach drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Maes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Maes throws a good cross that connects.
Maes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Roach.
Roach tries for a takedown but Maes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Leon Maes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Roach.
No joy there for Maes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Maes lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Roach just misses with a punch to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Leon Maes will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Frank Roach's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Roach misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Maes.

Roach shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Roach showed some decent athleticism there.
Roach has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Roach keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Maes wants to improve his position but Roach is controlling well.
Maes is trying to control but can't.
Maes is refusing to be controlled, as Roach sits in half guard.
Roach prevents Maes from improving his position.
Maes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Roach thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Maes's head.

Maes is in trouble now - Roach has advanced to mount!
Maes is looking to improve his position but Roach isn't that keen on the idea.
Roach lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Maes hang on?
Maes is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Roach looking to ground and pound but Maes is blocking nicely.
Maes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Roach lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Maes tries to hold on but Roach pushes him away.
Roach working the ground and pound effectively.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maes avoids a series of strikes thrown by Roach.
Roach trying to control but Maes is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roach landing punches.
Roach thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
BOOM! Roach connects with a massive shot to the dome!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Roach lands with some strikes.
Maes is squirming around, avoiding Roach's attempts to control the action.
Roach scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Maes?


Maes is rocked!

Oh Maes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Roach unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Maes wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Roach celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Frank Roach!
