PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Dennis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dennis kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bark at the moon. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jorge Dennis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bruce Do!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dennis rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Do counters with a leg kick.
Dennis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Do keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The fighters circling - Do throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Dennis fails with the takedown
and Do counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jorge Dennis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Do drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Dennis swinging wildly here.
Dennis throws a body punch but Do moves out of range.
Do takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Dennis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Do on his heels. He'll look to pass Do's guard now, I'm sure.

Dennis slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Dennis trying to control the action but Do is working from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dennis is trying to ground and pound but Do uses the momentary lack of control by Dennis to regain half guard.
Do is trying to get back to full guard.
Do is not content to let Dennis control the position.
Dennis stalling.

Dennis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Do is just riding it out for now. Dennis eventually gives up the hold.
Dennis throws a strike but Do avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Do has momentary wrist control but Dennis slips an elbow through the middle.
Dennis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Dennis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Do swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dennis is looking to work some ground and pound but Do has wrist control.
Do keeping moving, preventing Dennis from controlling successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dennis forces his way into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jorge Dennis dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Do tries to close the distance and clinch but Dennis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Do lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Dennis scores with a body shot.
Dennis slips under a jab.
Dennis shoots in for a double leg but Do sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A slapping leg kick lands for Do.
Do avoids the body shot from Dennis.
Do tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Do scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Do throws a hook but Dennis avoids it easily.
Do takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Do lands a nice leg kick that just misses Dennis's sensitive parts.
Do lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Do pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A punch lands to the side of Dennis 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Dennis throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dennis loads up on a big right hand but Do slips the punch.
Nice sprawl there from Do as Dennis shoots in.
Bruce Do is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dennis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Do sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dennis somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jorge Dennis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dennis feints and as Do raises his hands in defense, Dennis changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Dennis trying to control the position from guard on top but Do is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Do pulls Dennis in close to prevent any damage.

Do keeping moving, preventing Dennis from controlling successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Do looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Dennis puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Dennis is looking for a kimura but Do is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dennis to get the leverage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dennis seems to be looking for submissions.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dennis is working for a kimura but Do is defending it quite comfortably.
Dennis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Do does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Dennis shoots in for a takedown but Do shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Do throws out a powerful jab.
Dennis ducks right into an uppercut from Do.
Dennis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Do tries to avoid it but Dennis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Do to the ground. Do escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Do scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Dennis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Do sprawls well. Do wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dennis gets slowly back to his feet.

Dennis has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Do is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Do keeps control of Dennis as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Dennis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Do pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Do stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Dennis takes a knee to the side of the body.
Do lands a nice elbow.
A short uppercut from Do.
Knees to the body from Do.
Do is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Do lands an elbow inside that Dennis shrugs off.
A knee to the head by Do.
Do lands a damaging elbow.
Do landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Dennis drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jorge Dennis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dennis jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Do walks away with a smile on his face. Dennis gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Do with a body punch. A glancing blow.

Do clinches up with Dennis and pushes him back against the cage.

Do landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
A left hand lands to the body for Do.

A nice left hand lands by Do.

Dennis takes a knee right on the jaw!

Do connects with a nasty looking knee right to Dennis's face.
Do throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dennis blocks it with crossed arms.
Do stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Do lands a body shot.
Do misses with a knee to the head.
Do misses with a knee strike.
Do trying to land knees to the body.
Dennis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Do just stands there and leans against the cage.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dennis is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Do lands a nice shot to the body.
Bruce Do has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Do utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Do with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Bruce Do comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dennis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
