PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Zlapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Abbott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Abbott's choice of entrance music: I Shot Marvin in the Face. Mike Zlapp has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Zlapp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Abbott!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zlapp manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Abbott on his heels. He'll look to pass Abbott's guard now, I'm sure.

Abbott is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Zlapp defends well.
Zlapp scoring with some ground and pound.
Zlapp with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Abbott is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zlapp postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Zlapp lands a couple of decent looking shots.


It looks like David Abbott has been cut.
Zlapp postures up and lands a big shot to Abbott's brow.

Abbott looking for a guillotine here but Zlapp defends easily.
Zlapp cracks Abbott with a solid left hand.
Zlapp content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Zlapp connects with a couple of short punches.


That has opened up David Abbott's cut even more.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Abbott is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Zlapp missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Zlapp postures up and lands a big shot to Abbott's brow.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Abbott is on top in guard.

Abbott drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Abbott jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Abbott stops Zlapp from standing up.
Abbott trying to control but Zlapp is working from the bottom.
Zlapp knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Abbott on the ground.
Abbott wants to pass the guard but Zlapp is keeping the position.
Abbott wants to control from the top but Zlapp keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zlapp is looking to stand up but Abbott isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. David Abbott wasn't active enough on the ground.
Abbott lands with an uppercut that bounces Zlapp off the cage and back into range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zlapp takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Abbott lands a nice shot that snaps Zlapp's head back.
Abbott throws a good cross that connects.

Zlapp doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Zlapp drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Zlapp trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Zlapp has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Abbott to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Zlapp is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Abbott pulls down on the head and he's put Zlapp to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). David Abbott!
David Abbott spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
