PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Knowles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Isaiah Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perez has chosen All Summer Long as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Knowles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Isaiah Perez!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez fails with a takedown attempt.
Knowles shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Perez as he jumps to the side.
Perez tries for a takedown but Knowles sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Knowles pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Perez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Knowles.

Perez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Knowles manages to get to full guard.
Perez trying to control but Knowles is working from the bottom.

Knowles wants to stand and escape but Perez is having none of it.
Perez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Knowles keeping moving, preventing Perez from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Isaiah Perez.

Knowles rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Perez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Perez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Knowles closes the distance and clinches up with Perez, looking for a takedown. Knowles pushes Perez against the cage but Perez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Knowles wants to control but Perez postures up.

Knowles slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Knowles is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Perez stops Knowles from standing up.

Knowles is looking to stand up but Perez isn't so interested in that idea.

Perez tries to free his leg and advance position but Knowles is retaining full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Isaiah Perez was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Perez drives through with a takedown into guard.
Perez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knowles is trying to keep Perez in close.
Knowles wants to get back to his feet but Perez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Perez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Knowles but Knowles pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Perez tries to bum rush Knowles with a series of wild strikes but Knowles uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Knowles dives in and grabs Perez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Perez pushes down on Knowles's head and hops out.

Perez tries to clinch up but Knowles circles away and keeps his distance.

Perez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Knowles uses from the top position.

Isaiah Perez seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Knowles shoots in looking for a takedown but Perez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Knowles's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Perez clinches up with Knowles and pushes him back against the cage.

Perez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Perez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Knowles leaves Perez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Isaiah Perez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Perez throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Perez stuffs the takedown attempt from Knowles. Knowles gets slowly back to his feet.
Knowles throws a head kick but Perez moves out of range.
Perez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Knowles.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Knowles gets caught napping as Perez dives in and scores a takedown. Knowles manages to retain guard.
Knowles wants to sweep here but Perez controlling him for the moment.
Perez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well Perez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
