PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Norifumi Yamamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tombstone Terry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Norifumi Yamamoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 30 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tombstone Terry!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yamamoto slaps away a takedown attempt from Terry, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Terry looks gassed!
Terry avoids the head kick by Yamamoto.
Terry tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yamamoto swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Yamamoto pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tombstone Terry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Terry dives in and grabs Yamamoto's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yamamoto pushes down on Terry's head and hops out.
Terry is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Terry counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Terry avoids a punch combination nicely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Terry connects with a nasty looking knee right to Yamamoto's face.
Terry blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Yamamoto is trying to break the clinch but Terry has him pressed against the cage.
Yamamoto is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Terry is defending well for now.

Terry tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Yamamoto manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Terry will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

and Terry counters with a big head kick but Yamamoto shrugs it off.

That was a close round but I would say that Norifumi Yamamoto will probably get the nod.

Yamamoto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Yamamoto wants it to stay on the feet.
Terry is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Terry tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Yamamoto lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Terry circles away quickly and effectively.
Yamamoto looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Yamamoto will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Terry shoots in for a double leg but Yamamoto sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Terry has Yamamoto pressed against the cage, preventing Yamamoto from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Terry turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Terry manages to end up in side control.
Yamamoto is trying to control Terry's posture but Terry avoids it.
Terry creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Yamamoto sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Yamamoto might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Yamamoto tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Terry is punishing Yamamoto with strikes - can he finish him?!
Terry has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tombstone Terry showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Terry darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Terry wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Terry keeps control of Yamamoto as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Terry jumps guard and drags Yamamoto to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yamamoto wants to control from the top but Terry keeps moving.
Yamamoto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tombstone Terry has got the better of the ground game so far.
Terry is trying to keep Yamamoto in close.

Terry trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Terry won't allow Yamamoto to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Terry is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tombstone Terry wasn't active enough on the ground.
Yamamoto throws a series of punches but Terry moves out of range.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Terry tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yamamoto swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Terry forces Yamamoto back against the cage and clinches.

Tombstone Terry comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Terry has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
