Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Starr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Burkell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Burkell!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Burkell. No joy for Starr on that attempt.
Starr looks for a takedown but Burkell sprawls well.
Starr circles away from the clinch attempt.
Burkell looks to land a body kick but Starr moved away.
Starr stuffs the takedown attempt from Burkell. Burkell gets slowly back to his feet.
Burkell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Burkell blocks a head kick by Starr.

Starr moves into the clinch successfully.
Starr is trying to break the clinch but Burkell is controlling him.
Burkell is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Starr has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Burkell uses from the top position.

Burkell drops back, looking for a kneebar! Starr looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Starr looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Starr!
Starr will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Burkell is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Burkell is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Starr off and has taken his back!

Burkell wants to control but Starr is keeping busy.

I would not like to be Starr right now.

A close round but Frank Burkell will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A punch combination from Starr misses.
Starr wants to clinch up but Burkell keeps it at a distance.

Burkell is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Starr is defending well for now.

Burkell has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Starr off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Starr is defended easily by Burkell.
Burkell tries a head kick but it misses.
Starr throws a nice looking combination but Burkell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Starr tries to sprawl but Burkell drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Starr shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Burkell defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Derrick Starr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burkell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Starr as he avoids it easily.

Burkell fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Starr to the ground. Burkell is now in Starr's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Burkell should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Burkell connects with a nice short shot to Starr's temple.
Burkell is trying to control. Starr wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Burkell is nestled in close to Starr, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Starr is refusing to be controlled, as Burkell sits in half guard.
Starr tries to roll over but Burkell keeps him under control.
Burkell wants to take a breather but Starr is having none of it.
Burkell is stalling here. Starr is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Burkell seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Starr has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Frank Burkell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Check out the look on Burkell's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Starr is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Starr is squirming around, avoiding Burkell's attempts to control the action.

Frank Burkell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Burkell winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
