PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ty Sagat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Karate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sagat is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ty Sagat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eric Karate!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Aafke Stam and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sagat closes the distance but Karate moves to the side

and Karate decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sagat's guard.
Sagat is breathing heavily.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Karate trying to control the position from guard on top but Sagat is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Karate pushing down on Sagat's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Karate not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Karate is keen to just control but Sagat is a slippery customer.

Karate is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sagat doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Karate.
Sagat avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Karate.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Karate lands strikes from half guard.

Karate is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sagat defends it well.

Karate is trying to work for a kimura but Sagat is defending well.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Karate connects with a nice short shot to Sagat's temple.
Sagat really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Karate wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sagat keeps working.
Karate has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Karate landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karate thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Sagat won't allow Karate to pass to mount.
Karate trying to control from half guard but Sagat is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Eric Karate was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Sagat gets tackled into the cage by Karate. Karate maintains the clinch.

Karate works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Karate seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sagat will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Karate trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Karate passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Karate is trying to get an arm triangle but Sagat is defending well.
Karate trying to control the action but Sagat is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Karate is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sagat knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Karate working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Karate wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sagat, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Karate dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Karate dives in and grabs Sagat's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sagat pushes down on Karate's head and hops out.
Karate tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sagat sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Karate somewhat.
Karate shoots in but Sagat avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ty Sagat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eric Karate.
Karate looks to land a right hand but Sagat moved out of range.

Karate feints and as Sagat raises his hands in defense, Karate changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Karate trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Karate wants to control from the top but Sagat keeps moving.
Karate slips nicely into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Karate is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sagat!

Karate jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sagat manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Karate is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sagat is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Karate tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Karate has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karate trying to control the position but Sagat is working away.
Sagat wants to get back to his feet.

Karate is trying to get an arm triangle but Sagat is defending well.
Karate tries to advance to mount but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karate creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Sagat sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Sagat is not content to let Karate control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sagat prevents Karate from moving into mount.
Karate lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Karate throws an elbow but Sagat slips to the side and avoids it well.

Karate looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Karate has an Americana. Sagat didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Karate is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Karate hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Eric Karate!
