The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rae has his takedown stuffed
and Maldonado counters with a left and a right that stings Rae.
Maldonado misses with a series of wild punches.
Maldonado will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Rae shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Maldonado's guard.
Rae stands up over Maldonado, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Rae sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Maldonado's guard.
Rae looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Maldonado with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
