Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Johnny Rio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mazola Muhammad!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rio pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Rio could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Muhammad shoots in for a double leg but Rio sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Muhammad fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rio avoids it really well and circles away.
Muhammad rushes Rio and presses him up against the cage.
Muhammad tries to pull guard but Rio won't allow it.
Johnny Rio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mazola Muhammad.
Muhammad wants to get back to striking at distance but Rio won't allow it.
Muhammad is pushing Rio up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Rio is trying to break the clinch but Muhammad has him pressed against the cage.
Rio tries a knee to the head but Muhammad blocks it.
Rio tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Muhammad on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Rio is trying to break the clinch but Muhammad is controlling him.
Rio throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Muhammad blocks it with crossed arms.
Muhammad manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Muhammad jumps guard and drags Rio to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rio pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Muhammad is keeping the position for now.
Muhammad wants to stand but Rio is controlling the position.
Muhammad escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rio gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Muhammad not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Muhammad is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rio pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Muhammad is keeping the position for now.
Muhammad lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Rio!
Rio is desperately trying to improve his position but Muhammad has a good base and remains in mount.
Rio gets back to half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Muhammad throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Muhammad is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rio sees it coming and defends easily.
Rio wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Muhammad prevents Rio from improving his position.
Rio manages to get to full guard.
Muhammad gets to his feet - Rio follows without any prompting.
Muhammad tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rio sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Muhammad somewhat.
Johnny Rio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Muhammad looks gassed!
Good leg kick by Rio there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Muhammad wants to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rio lands a leg kick that knocks Muhammad off balance momentarily.
Rio misses with a low kick.
Rio blocks a head kick by Muhammad.
Rio misses with a low kick.
Muhammad takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
It looks like Mazola Muhammad has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Muhammad checks a leg kick.
Muhammad gets a takedown into half guard.
Muhammad seems to be working for a kimura but Rio defends the submission attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rio is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Muhammad's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Muhammad's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Rio will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Mazola Muhammad's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Rio tries to work over Muhammad's front leg with a kick but Muhammad checks it.
Muhammad takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Muhammad moves out of range as Rio strikes.
Rio throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rio pushes Muhammad away with a front kick.
Rio chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Muhammad avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Rio wants to land a leg kick but Muhammad is out of range.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Rio.
A head kick misses from Rio.
Muhammad tries to clinch but Rio is having none of it.
Rio stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rio wants it to stay on the feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A decent looking cross lands there for Rio.
Muhammad is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Muhammad takes a kick to the side of the head.
Rio with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
A slapping leg kick lands for Rio.
Rio connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Rio fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Rio cracks a nice hook into Muhammad's ribs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rio jabs Muhammad to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Rio ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Rio scores with a shot to the body.
Rio lands a big head kick that sends Muhammad tumbling to the mat! Rio takes a step backwards and waves Muhammad back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Muhammad is rocked!
Rio sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Muhammad's defenses. It connects perfectly with Muhammad's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Johnny Rio!
Johnny Rio seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
