Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lupe Pintor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joko Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lupe Pintor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joko Diaz!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pintor misses the jab.
Pintor keeps the fight on the outside.
A leg kick checked by Diaz.
Diaz fails with the takedown.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pintor swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz blocks the body kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz wants to clinch up but Pintor keeps it at a distance.
Pintor paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Diaz is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Pintor.
Pintor defending well as Diaz loads up on a big left hand.
Diaz closes the distance looking to clinch
letting Pintor counter with a right hand.

Diaz misses with a jab, cross combination.
Diaz shoots in for a double leg but Pintor sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Pintor throws the left hand but Diaz avoids the punch easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz tries to clinch but Pintor moves out of range.
Pintor is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Pintor misses with a jab, cross combination.
Pintor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Diaz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pintor throws a head kick that misses.

Pintor gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Pintor looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Diaz works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Diaz is keen to just control but Pintor is a slippery customer.

Diaz is trying to control. Pintor wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lupe Pintor will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pintor works over Diaz's head and body with a nice combination.
Pintor scoring well with a low kick there.
Diaz looks to score with a jab to the body but Pintor is just out of range.
Pintor lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Diaz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Pintor connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Joko Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Diaz is looking to clinch but Pintor is avoiding it.
Diaz tries to clinch up.
Pintor throws a jab when Diaz was well out of range.
Pintor is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Diaz fails to land with a series of punches.
Pintor misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Danga de danga de dang - Pintor scores with a four punch combination!
Pintor lands with a kick to the temple. Diaz shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Diaz wants to clinch
and Pintor counters with a stiff right hand.

Lupe Pintor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joko Diaz.
Pintor throws a knee to the head but misses.
Diaz is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Pintor is keeping busy.
Diaz blocks an elbow strike.
Pintor letting Diaz take a breather here.
Pintor works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
A right hand to the body from Diaz.
A short right from Pintor on the inside.
Pintor's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Pintor throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Diaz blocks it with crossed arms.
Pintor using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Diaz has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Diaz is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Diaz ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Diaz no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Diaz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Pintor postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Diaz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pintor, into his guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Diaz stops Pintor from standing up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pintor tries to land a sweep but no joy.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lupe Pintor dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Diaz throws a leg kick but Pintor moved away.

Pintor gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Pintor keeps moving.
Diaz scoring with some ground and pound.

Pintor wants to sweep but no luck.
Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pintor swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pintor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Diaz manages to get himself to full guard.

Pintor postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Diaz to stand up.
Diaz tries to land a front kick but Pintor steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Diaz avoids the head kick by Pintor.
Diaz fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pintor jabs Diaz right on the nose. Diaz blinks but takes it well.
Lupe Pintor is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Diaz fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Diaz shoots in but Pintor avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lupe Pintor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joko Diaz.
Diaz doesn't manage to clinch there - Pintor circles away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pintor staying out of range there.
Pintor lands a glancing blow to the side of Diaz's head.

and Diaz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Joko Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A head kick from Pintor lands but Diaz takes it in his stride.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lupe Pintor.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pintor, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
