PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Knaivho Krronov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Dunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dunn has chosen No Grave That Can Hold My body down as his entrance music. Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Knaivho Krronov could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Mike Dunn's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Knaivho Krronov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Dunn!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Dmitry Maklakov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dunn tries a head kick but it misses.

Dunn closes the distance and clinches.

Dunn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dunn lands a nice shot to the body.
Krronov is breathing heavily.
Krronov tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Dunn moves into the clinch.
Krronov tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dunn smiles and moves away.
A low kick from Krronov misses

and Dunn moves into the clinch.
Krronov looking to slow down the pace here.

Dunn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Dunn drives through and clinches with Krronov against the cage.
Dunn softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Dunn lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Krronov is trying to pull guard but Dunn turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Krronov pulls guard successfully.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Dunn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Dunn stands up and waves to Krronov to follow him.

Krronov shoots and misses

and Dunn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Knaivho Krronov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dunn tries to free his leg and advance position but Krronov is retaining full guard.

It looks like Dunn might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mike Dunn hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Krronov closes the distance but Dunn moves to the side

so Dunn counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dunn controls from within his opponent's guard.

Krronov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Dunn gets to his feet - Krronov follows without any prompting.

Dunn misses with a jab, cross combination.
Dunn looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Krronov takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dunn throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Krronov avoids a punch combination nicely.

Dunn moves into range and clinches up with Krronov.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Dunn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Krronov was covering up waiting for the punch and Dunn finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Dunn advances to half guard.
Dunn winds up and cracks Krronov with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Dunn is controlling the pace.

Krronov looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dunn perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Dunn passes to side control.

Dunn stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Krronov wants to clinch

and Dunn counters with a nice double leg into side control. Krronov won't be happy with that.
Dunn staying calm.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Let's hope that Dunn has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mike Dunn has got the better of the ground game so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Krronov is being controlled here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mike Dunn wasn't active enough on the ground.
Dunn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Krronov tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Dunn counters by clinching up.

Krronov pulls guard successfully.
Dunn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Krronov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dunn is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Dunn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dunn looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Krronov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dunn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Dunn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Krronov jumps guard but Dunn turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Dunn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Krronov's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mike Dunn.
Krronov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dunn is fending him off so far but Krronov persists. Nope, Dunn circles away and we're back to standing.
Dunn moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Dunn has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Krronov slips a jab and a cross from Dunn.

Dunn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Krronov wants to control but Dunn is having none of it.

Mike Dunn is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Dunn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Mike Dunn decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
