PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jessie Elliot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Rizal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jessie Elliot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Rizal!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rizal misses with a takedown attempt - Elliot sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Elliot fails to land with a series of punches.

Rizal feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Elliot keeping moving, preventing Rizal from controlling successfully.
Elliot has a closed guard, preventing Rizal from standing up.
Rizal tries to free his leg and advance position but Elliot is retaining full guard.
Rizal advances position into side control!
Elliot is looking to regain half guard here but Rizal keeps moving and retains side control.
Rizal tries to stand but Elliot is controlling his head.
Elliot is trying to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Elliot is trying to work for a sweep but Rizal has mounted him!
Rizal misses with a head shot.
Elliot just holding on.

Rizal is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Elliot to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Elliot shrugs it off.
Elliot wants to hold on but Rizal pushes him away.
Elliot tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Rizal has control of Elliot's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Elliot regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rizal misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rizal throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Elliot holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Rizal tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Rizal has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rizal takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Rizal looking to isolate an arm here. Elliot doesn't see it coming and as Rizal extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Rizal!
