The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samuels throws a series of punches but Adams avoids them all with ease.
Adams looks for the body kick but Samuels saw that one coming.
Adams with a lazy takedown attempt

and Samuels counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Adams's guard now.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Samuels passes Adams's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Adams looking for submissions off his back.
Samuels not doing much here.
Samuels's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We're going to have a standup here because Sam Samuels wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Adams shoots in but Samuels avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Adams moves into the clinch.
Adams tries for a takedown. No joy.

Adams is trying to pull guard but Samuels turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Samuels is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Samuels uses his free foot to push down on Adams's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Adams.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Adams is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

You get the feeling that Adams really doesn't like being in this position too much.
