PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Geordie Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Wilkes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilkes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A.. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Geordie Boy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Douglas Wilkes!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boy displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wilkes.
Wilkes dives in and grabs Boy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boy pushes down on Wilkes's head and hops out.

Geordie Boy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Douglas Wilkes.
Wilkes slaps away a takedown attempt from Boy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Wilkes is defended easily by Boy.
Boy leaves Wilkes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Wilkes shoots in looking for a takedown. Boy tries to sprawl out of it but Wilkes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Boy manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Boy tries to clinch up but Wilkes circles away and keeps his distance.
Boy shoots for a takedown but Wilkes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Boy shoots in looking for a takedown. Wilkes tries to sprawl out of it but Boy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wilkes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Boy throws a series of punches but Wilkes avoids them all with ease.

Wilkes closes the distance and pushes Boy back into the cage.
Boy tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Wilkes just stands there and leans against the cage.
Boy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wilkes pulls his leg out and moves away.

Boy shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wilkes manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Wilkes is pulling down on Boy's head to control his posture.
Wilkes manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Wilkes lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Wilkes looking to control but Boy is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Wilkes scoring with strikes but Boy is staying in there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wilkes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Boy is looking to escape.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Wilkes cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Wilkes lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Boy wants to hold on but Wilkes pushes him away.

Wilkes cracks Boy with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

BOOM! Wilkes connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Wilkes fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Boy is in a horrible position here. Wilkes smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Boy is in all sorts of trouble here.
Wilkes lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Wilkes is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Boy to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Boy shrugs it off.
Wilkes is landing with some decent strikes but Boy is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Boy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Wilkes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Boy was covering up waiting for the punch and Wilkes finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Wilkes lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wilkes chips away with some ground and pound.
Wilkes is working Boy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Wilkes postures up in Boy's guard and throws a big left but Boy blocks it.

Wilkes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wilkes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Wilkes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boy keeps working.

Wilkes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Wilkes is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Boy has managed to free his arm - good work.

Wilkes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Boy is just riding it out for now. Wilkes eventually gives up the hold.

Boy is looking for a sweep. Wilkes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Boy takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Boy is looking to regain half guard here but Wilkes keeps moving and retains side control.

Wilkes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wilkes has managed to get both his arms back between Boy's legs - danger averted.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
