PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trey Smith Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathon Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by What Ive Done. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trey Smith Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jonathon Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith Jr shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jackson as he avoids it easily.
Jackson looks for a takedown but Smith Jr sprawls well.
Jackson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
No joy there for Jackson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Jackson throws a leg kick that misses.
Smith Jr changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jackson tries to avoid it but Smith Jr manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jackson to the ground. Jackson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trey Smith Jr. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jackson lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Smith Jr at a distance.
Jackson shoots in looking for a takedown but Smith Jr manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jackson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jackson lands a nice leg kick that just misses Smith Jr's sensitive parts.
Smith Jr is looking to clinch but Jackson is avoiding it.
Jackson throws a series of punches but Smith Jr avoids them all with ease.
Jackson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith Jr.

Smith Jr is working for takedown but Jackson is calmly controlling the position for now.
Smith Jr is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Jackson lands an elbow inside.
Jackson tries for a takedown but Smith Jr manages to get underhooks.

Jackson pulls guard effortlessly.

Jackson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith Jr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith Jr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Smith Jr seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jackson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Smith Jr wants to pass to mount but Jackson is defending the position.
Jackson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith Jr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith Jr seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Smith Jr slips a nice elbow through Jackson's hands, connecting with Jackson's forehead.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith Jr lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Smith Jr uses his free foot to push down on Jackson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jackson.

Smith Jr cracks Jackson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Smith Jr goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Jackson turns into him and now he's in Smith Jr's guard.
Smith Jr has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smith Jr tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jackson stands and throws Smith Jr's legs to the side, diving into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith Jr manages to get back to half guard.

Smith Jr is controlling Jackson's trapped leg to prevent Jackson from advancing to side control.
Smith Jr moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Smith Jr looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Smith Jr kicks Jackson off and gets to his feet.
Smith Jr closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Smith Jr pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Trey Smith Jr dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Smith Jr takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Trey Smith Jr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith Jr is looking to clinch but Jackson is avoiding it.
Smith Jr shoots in looking for a takedown but Jackson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith Jr's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A nice combination there by Jackson.

Smith Jr feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jackson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith Jr looks up at the clock and then as Jackson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Smith Jr smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Smith Jr is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jackson is just riding it out for now. Smith Jr eventually gives up the hold.

Smith Jr is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jackson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smith Jr.

Smith Jr takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
