PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between H Y Kwon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kwon comes to the cage accompanied by Wu Tang Clan - CREAM. Santiago is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Asesinos - Los Crudos. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, H Y Kwon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kwon lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Kwon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Santiago throws a hook to the side of Kwon's head but Kwon sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Santiago misses with a low kick.
Santiago will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kwon is looking to land body kicks.
Santiago avoids the head kick by Kwon.
A slow jab from Kwon misses its intended target.
Kwon staying out of range there.
Santiago throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kwon sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Santiago slips a straight right by Kwon.
Kwon uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Santiago.
Santiago scores with a jab. Kwon acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kwon fails to land with a series of punches.
Kwon fails with a takedown attempt.
Kwon slips a jab from Santiago.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kwon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Santiago's waist but Santiago gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kwon off to one side.
Kwon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kwon looks for a takedown but Santiago sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for H Y Kwon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kwon throws a sloppy head kick and Santiago moves out of range easily.
Kwon shoots in for a takedown but Santiago shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Santiago feints a jab promting Kwon to slip. Santiago then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kwon slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Kwon is breathing heavily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Santiago.
Kwon misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Santiago leaves Kwon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kwon has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like H Y Kwon has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Santiago gets a takedown into half guard.
Kwon wants to control but Santiago is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Santiago is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Kwon!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santiago unloading with bombs!
Kwon really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Santiago putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Kwon is squirming around, avoiding Santiago's attempts to control the action.
Kwon can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santiago landing strikes from the mount.
The referee warns Kwon that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Santiago with a couple of short strikes.
Santiago breaks from Kwon's wrist control and lands an elbow.


Kwon is rocked!
Santiago postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Kwon in real trouble here! The ref calls for Kwon to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Antonio Santiago!
A less than humble Antonio Santiago misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
