The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gerarde has taken the fight to the clinch.
Gerarde pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Venter is looking to clinch.
Gerarde circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gerarde shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Venter scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
It looks like Alain Gerarde has been cut.

Alain Gerarde seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gerarde gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Venter counters with a head kick that drops Gerarde to the mat! Gerarde scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
