PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jin Sen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenji Murofushi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sen's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Let It Rock. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jin Sen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenji Murofushi!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Shimada and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Murofushi.

Murofushi drives through with a takedown into Sen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Murofushi passes into half guard.

Murofushi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sen is just riding it out for now. Murofushi eventually gives up the hold.

Murofushi is working for a kimura but Sen is defending it quite comfortably.

Murofushi with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Let's hope that Murofushi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Sen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Murofushi seems to be looking for submissions.
Murofushi uses his free foot to push down on Sen's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sen.
Murofushi lands a nice shot to the head.

Murofushi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sen is looking to escape.
Murofushi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Murofushi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Murofushi throws a wild left hand from mount and Sen manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Murofushi not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Murofushi has a takedown stuffed.
Sen leaves Murofushi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sen is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Murofushi.
Murofushi throws a hook but Sen avoids it easily.
Sen jabs Murofushi right on the nose. Murofushi blinks but takes it well.

Sen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Murofushi.

Jin Sen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Murofushi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Sen bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Murofushi misses with a two punch combination.
Sen lands a nice leg kick that just misses Murofushi's sensitive parts.
Murofushi throws a body punch but Sen moves out of range.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Murofushi.
Jin Sen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenji Murofushi.
Sen swings for the body but Murofushi moves out of range.
Murofushi lands a lovely overhand right.
Murofushi loads up on a big right hand but Sen slips the punch.
Sen throws a leg kick but Murofushi moved away.

Murofushi cracks Sen with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Murofushi tries to clinch but Sen moves out of range.
A slow jab from Murofushi misses its intended target.
Murofushi misses with a straight left.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Murofushi gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Sen.
Murofushi ducks under a wild hook from Sen.
Murofushi just misses with a punch to the body.
Murofushi misses with a body shot.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Murofushi, as that shot connected.
Murofushi misses with a hook. Sen ducked under it nicely.
Murofushi throws a hook to the side of Sen's head but Sen sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Sen counters with a good low kick that Murofushi was not able to check.

Murofushi lands a really nice looking cross but Sen seems unphased.
Murofushi swings widly with a right hand
and Sen counters with a nice uppercut.
Murofushi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A big left from Sen misses.
Kenji Murofushi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Murofushi misses with the combination.
Murofushi throws an off balance right hand
and Sen counters with a thumping low kick.
Murofushi lands with a cross.
Murofushi lands a lovely overhand right.
Murofushi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Sen thuds his shin into the meat of Murofushi's side.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Murofushi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Murofushi, as that shot connected.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Sen!

Murofushi just misses with a punch to the body.
Murofushi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Murofushi missing with a left hand there. Sen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Murofushi smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Murofushi thuds a left hand into Sen's body.
Jin Sen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Murofushi dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Sen avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sen throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Sen takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sen throws a head kick that misses.
Murofushi connects with a body shot that sends Sen's belly button to the back.
Murofushi throws an overhand right that lands on Sen's shoulder, as Sen tries to avoid the shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenji Murofushi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Murofushi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sen is looking for a sweep.
Murofushi wants to control but Sen is keeping him busy.
Sen prevents Murofushi from moving into mount.
Murofushi is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sen will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Murofushi wants to take a breather but Sen manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Murofushi.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kenji Murofushi was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Murofushi chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Sen can pounce on him.

Murofushi stuns Sen with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Murofushi catches Sen with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Kenji Murofushi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sen jabs Murofushi right on the nose. Murofushi blinks but takes it well.
Sen misses with a body kick.
Murofushi looks to land a right hand but Sen moved out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Donk. Murofushi catches Sen right on the button with a cross.
Murofushi cracks Sen with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Sen throws a low kick but it's checked well by Murofushi.

Sen throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Murofushi lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Sen throws out a loose jab but Murofushi uses good head movement to avoid it.

A big right from Sen misses.
Murofushi lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.


It looks like Jin Sen has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Murofushi dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Murofushi throws a lazy right hand but Sen sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Murofushi lands a really nice looking cross but Sen seems unphased.
Jin Sen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sen throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Murofushi. Sen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Murofushi looks to score with a jab to the body but Sen is just out of range.
Murofushi bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Sen's head.

Murofushi pushes Sen up against the cage in a clinch.
Murofushi swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Kenji Murofushi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sen misses with a hook from the clinch.
Sen tries to break the clinch but Murofushi is controlling the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kenji Murofushi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Murofushi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Kenji Murofushi spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
