PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mike Valentine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gustavo Silva told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Valentine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gustavo Silva!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Valentine changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Silva looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Valentine throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Valentine stands up.
Valentine looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Valentine as he jumps to the side.
Valentine uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Silva.
Silva fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mike Valentine has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gustavo Silva.
Valentine keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Valentine shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Silva as he jumps to the side.

and Valentine counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Silva's guard now.
Valentine might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Valentine wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
Valentine with a flurry of punches that miss.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silva is on top in guard.
Valentine manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Silva looks gassed!
Silva tries to lock up and control but Valentine gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Valentine wants to control the pace but Silva is squirming around nicely.

Valentine can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Silva is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Valentine lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Valentine working for a submission but Silva is keeping him at bay.
Silva wants to hold on but Valentine pushes him away.
Valentine looking to control but Silva is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Silva is trying to escape the mount.
Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Valentine lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Silva is rocked!
Valentine loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Silva scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Valentine land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Valentine stands and salutes the crowd.
