PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Malik Camal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kellen Piston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Piston has chosen here comes the boom as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Malik Camal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kellen Piston!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piston keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Piston avoids a kick to the body.
Camal takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Camal changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Piston tries to avoid it but Camal manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Piston to the ground. Piston escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Camal takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Camal darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Piston punching from the bottom.
Still in half guard, Camal seems content to control.
Camal is thwarting Piston's attempts to control the position.
Camal stalling.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Malik Camal just wasn't active enough.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Piston.
Camal tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Piston paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Piston stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Piston wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Malik Camal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Piston shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No luck for Camal with that takedown attempt.
Piston dives in and grabs Camal's left leg, looking for a takedown. Camal pushes down on Piston's head and hops out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Camal feints and as Piston raises his hands in defense, Camal changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Piston controls Camal momentarily but Camal frees himself.
Camal throws a big right hand that misses.
Camal postures up.
Camal prevents Piston from getting back to his feet.

Camal decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Camal counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Piston's guard now.
Piston really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Camal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Camal is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Piston trying to control the position.
Camal sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Piston controls Camal momentarily but Camal frees himself.
Camal controls from within his opponent's guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Piston shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Camal pinned against the cage. Camal gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Piston bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Camal feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Camal's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Camal is looking to work some ground and pound but Piston has wrist control.
Camal slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Piston is trying to hold Camal in close to prevent damage but Camal has managed to pass into half guard.

Camal decides to stand and escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Camal tries for a takedown but Piston sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Malik Camal dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Piston shoots in looking for a takedown. Camal tries to sprawl out of it but Piston keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Camal manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Piston clinches up with Camal and pushes him back against the cage.
Piston is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Camal is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Camal is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Piston has Camal pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Camal manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Malik Camal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kellen Piston.
Camal wants a takedown.
Piston is trying to force a seperation but Camal has the dominant position.
Piston tries for a takedown. No joy.
Piston fails to pull guard.
Piston is breathing heavily.
Camal tries for a takedown but Piston manages to get underhooks.

Camal trying to stall but Piston improves his position.
Piston is trying to break free.
Camal jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Piston walks away with a smile on his face. Camal gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Camal shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Piston as he avoids it easily.

Piston closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Piston prevents a takedown attempt there.

Piston is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Camal can't fight it off and eventually Piston manages to take the fight to the floor. Camal looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Camal is controlling Piston's posture.
Piston trying to control but Camal is working from the bottom.

Piston got a little sloppy there for a moment and Camal has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Piston has managed to get both his arms back between Camal's legs - danger averted.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Camal throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Camal is controlling Piston's posture.
Piston lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Camal pushes Piston off and gets back to his feet.
Malik Camal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Piston tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Camal paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A chopping leg kick lands by Piston.

Camal rushes Piston and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A short uppercut from Piston.
Camal tries to score a body lock takedown but Piston shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Piston looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Piston jumps guard and drags Camal to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Piston is trying to keep Camal in close.

Piston had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Camal defends it easily.
Camal lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Camal looking to pass the guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Piston wants to stand but Camal is controlling the position.
Camal distracts Piston with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Kellen Piston will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Camal shoots and misses

and Piston counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Camal keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Piston's efforts to push away.
Camal wants to get back to striking at distance but Piston won't allow it.
Piston tries to pull guard but Camal forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Piston is trying to maintain a safe position but Camal gets an underhook and turns Piston into the cage.
Piston tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Camal just stands there and leans against the cage.
Camal jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Piston walks away with a smile on his face. Camal gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Piston manages to break the clinch.
Camal tries to clinch up but Piston circles away and keeps his distance.
Camal stuffs the takedown attempt from Piston. Piston gets slowly back to his feet.
Malik Camal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kellen Piston.

Piston shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Camal sprawls well. Camal wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Piston gets slowly back to his feet.
Piston takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Piston shoots in and gets a takedown into Camal's guard.
Malik Camal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Camal throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Camal is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Piston wants to control from the top but Camal keeps moving.

Camal pushes Piston off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Piston doesn't manage to clinch there - Camal circles away.
Piston tries for a takedown but Camal circles away easily
and Camal counters with a body kick.

Camal drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Piston is working an open guard so Camal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Camal fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Piston has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Camal shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Piston is trying to defend but Camal finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Camal is controlling the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Camal prevents Piston from standing back up.
Piston is trying to control but can't.
Camal content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Malik Camal.
Camal tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Piston paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Piston shoots in but no luck this time.

Camal darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Camal decides to stand up.

Piston gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Camal content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

And that's the end of the fight!
Malik Camal showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Camal has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
